It’s been a good couple of years since we saw Tatsuya and Miyuki cast some spells at First High School. The long-awaited The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahoka Koko no Rettosei) Season 3 will arrive in April 2024 sometime. We’ll see forbidden love continue to blossom before us. Until then, let’s enjoy the new trailer and the new music video. LiSA returned to sing “Rising Hope” to celebrate the series’ tenth anniversary. She was there to sing this most beloved of songs back in 2014, and she reprised her role to sing it again and to sing the new theme, “Shouted Serenade.”
Tsutomu Sato first released his The Irregular at Magic High School novel series to Shosetsuka ni Naro between October 12th, 2008, and March 21st, 2011. ASCII Media Works obtained the publishing rights and hired the artist Kana Ishida to adapt the series to the light novel format. The Dengeki Bunko imprint published the first series in 32 volumes from July 10th, 2011, to September 10th, 2020. The sequel series began its run on October 10th, 2020, with seven currently published volumes.
The two main leads of this series are as follows:
- Tatsuya Shiba — Yuichi Nakamura (Gray Fullbuster in Fairy Tail). A stoic individual with tremendous combative prowess. He has dedicated his life to protecting his sister Miyuki.
- Miyuki Shiba — Saori Hayami (Oyuki in the 2022 Urusei Yatsura). A prodigy in the magical arts with the moniker “The Ice Queen” owed to her freezing magic. She has dedicated her existence to her brother Tatsuya, with whom she shares romantic feelings.
To promote The Irregular at Magic High School, the studio has maintained a home page and a Twitter (X) page. You can find additional series information and key visuals there.
The Irregular at Magic High School Continues to Excel
The Irregular at Magic High School has a unique magic system set in modern times. Magic isn’t much of a secret here. The series follows Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, siblings with a tragic history. Miyuki is heir to the Yotsuba clan, one of the ten clans that govern Japan’s magical community. She has earned recognition as a prodigy who attains the pinnacle of magical ability. Tatsuya, considered a pariah in his clan, is deemed nothing more than a failure. Regardless, he’s tasked with guarding Miyuki. Tatsuya has more power than the clan would care to admit in reality. Though he’s sent into the lower brackets of First High School, his superior skills are deemed “irregular” for such a position.
Season 3 will continue the story after the Visitor Arc and Reminiscence Arc and will adapt three major arcs this season. Joe has written more in-depth reviews of the prior first season, second season, and the magical girl spinoff.
