While we’re only a couple of weeks into the current exciting anime season, news of the shows that are set to hit Japanese airwaves and western streaming services next season is already starting to pour out. Just like any other season, there are a variety of shows to look forward to. From action-filled light novel adaptations to slapstick manga animations and thoughtful original stories, there’s plenty to get excited about. If cute and silly stories about sleep-deprived princesses are your particular poison, then you’ll want to keep your eyes on Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle. A new trailer for the adaptation of Kagiji Kumanomata’s Maōjō de Oyasumi manga confirms that the series is set to debut this October.

Viz Media currently publish the Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle manga series in English, and describe the story as follows:

Sshhh! Princess Syalis is trying to get a good night’s sleep. Some shut-eye. Forty winks. Catch some Z’s. Long ago in olden times when people and demons lived together in — well, disharmony, really — a demon king kidnaps a human princess and imprisons her in his castle. Bereft, the princess’s subjects beat their chests in anguish…until a hero arises to spearhead Project Rescue Our Princess! While waiting for her knight in shining armor, what’s an imprisoned princess to do …? Teddy-bear guards with bat wings are all very well, but her dungeon cell is bo-o-o-ring! So, she decides to wile away the long hours by sleeping. Now if only she could get comfortable…and didn’t suffer from insomnia…

The anime adaptation of Sleepy Princess in the Demon Castle is being handled by Doga Kobo, the rising-star anime studio that has delivered classic romantic comedy hits like Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun as well as recent stellar series like Sing “Yesterday” for Me and How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?. The anime is even being directed by How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? director Mitsue Yamazaki, who also directed Tada Never Falls in Love. Yoshiko Nakamura of Kabukibu! and Hiiro no Kakera – The Tamayori Princess Saga fame is in charge of series scripts. Character designs are being handled by Ai Kikuchi, the artist behind New Game! and How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?.

Various other staff members for the show include:

  • Prop Design: Megumi Matsumoto
  • Art Director: Chieko Nakamura
  • Color Design: Kei Ishiguro
  • Director of Photography: Kunihiko Ito
  • Visual Effects: Seiichi Sugiura

  • Editing: Mutsumi Takemiya
