A new year is upon us! Time to attempt to be the best versions of ourselves and beat our personal high scores from last year. Whether it’s getting fit, breaking bad habits, or just getting our feet wet trying new things, it’s a good time to look towards the future with optimism and enthusiasm. One such person who’s taking that to heart is Masahiro Itō. Known as famed Silent Hill art director and creature designer, he mentioned on Twitter recently that he had begun work on a new project.
I'm working on a title as a core member. I hope the title won't be cancelled.

While details on the project weren’t forthcoming, fans of both the Silent Hill series and Itō’s work may see his wish for a job not to fall through as a tongue-in-cheek reference to Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills project. The project was canceled by Konami in April 2015, amidst reports of Konami and Kojima butting heads during Kojima’s last days with the video game company. Adding to this are recent reports of Kojima working on a new horror title, and Itō posting the image below to Twitter after notifying fans of his new project while wishing them a “belated happy new year.”

The image is actually from Itō’s portfolio from a self-described “Russian retro sci-fi horror” game that was in development by Sony from 2008-2010, as reported by IGN back in 2017. Even if it isn’t Silent Hill related, the image’s aesthetic feels like it could fit right into any Silent Hill game. Though there are fans (myself included) that would love this tweet to be proof that Kojima and Itō have combined forces to create a masterpiece in horror for the new decade, whatever Itō is working on will certainly be something to talk about. Until more news is available, we can all wish Itō the best of luck on his new project. As for the rest of us, it’s only January and the year will no doubt have much more in store for us all. Here’s to a (hopefully) Happy New Year to all of us.
