I’ve written before about anime tie-in merchandise or crossover events here on the J-List Blog and while I’ve never really gotten into the virtual YouTuber craze, I think I’ve finally found a piece of crossover merchandise even I wouldn’t go near. Not so much because it’s a bad product, but more because I’m not interested in getting fleeced.
As part of a special crossover event with Hololive and the Raku Spa chain in Japan, fans will be able to purchase various menu items from the restaurant area of the spa, which are themed after some of their favorite V-Tubers. Sure, there is the usual fare themed after Shiranui Flare, Houshou Marine, Shirogane Noel, and Uruha Rushia (pictured below)… however, there is one particular menu item that might catch otaku’s eyes (and wallets).
That would be the crossover item for Usada Pekora, which will cost you around $35 USD. What do you get for that hefty price tag? A bunch of plain, ordinary, raw carrots in an autographed bucket. Because Pekora is a rabbit girl, get it?
Now, I like to consider myself a pretty die-hard fan of anime and many of its related fields. While I’m not a rich person by any stretch, I try to pick merchandise where possible to support the franchises that I enjoy the most. This is where I’m willing to draw a line in the sand, though. For $35, fans should certainly expect more than a small decorative bucket filled with five (or less) carrots. I don’t even care if the bucket is autographed. That’s just plain taking advantage of otaku for what is likely a tidy profit for everyone involved except for those who are shelling out the money.
If you are really that much of a die-hard fan of Hololive V-Tuber Usada Pekora, however, who am I to tell you how to spend your money? So if you want, nay need, this bucket for your personal collection head on over to your local Raku Spa location between January 27th to February 28th and load up on some carrots.
