As we all know, Netflix has been hard at work on a live-action version of the eternally beloved sci-fi anime series Cowboy Bebop. Some people are excited about this, some people not so much, and still others are firmly in the undecided camp, but with the information that we learned today, I think a few people are going to be swayed firmly into the “yay” category!

In a short video posted to Twitter, Netflix announced that not only are we going to finally get to see the live-action Cowboy Bebop this fall, but the legendary original composer for the series, Yoko Kanno, will compose the soundtrack! That is a huge score for Netflix (pun intended)!
One of the best things about Cowboy Bebop was the iconic jazz music that played throughout the series (and we’re not even including the brilliant opening theme song!) and to know that we’re going to get to hear that same great style of music is a blessing upon this day.
The history of a live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation actually goes back much further than anyone probably remembers. The very first time that any bit of news regarding a live-action project for this series was in 2008 when it was reported that a deal had been signed for a Hollywood movie to be developed. Actor Keanu Reeves was set to play the main character, Spike. Unfortunately, from there the project went absolutely nowhere and a couple of years later in a Reddit AMA, Reeves admitted that the project was probably not going to include him any longer.
From there the project was considered mostly dead by fans. Updates dried up into nothing.
It wasn’t until June 2017 that hope was revived by Netflix as they revealed they were developing a live-action series for their service that Christopher Yost would write. This brings us to now, which has us waiting patiently for the debut on Netflix.
The cast for the series is as follows (character names first):
Spike Spiegel: John Cho
Jet Black: Mustafa Shakir
Faye Valentine: Daniella Pineda
Vicious: Alex Hassell
Julia: Elena Satine
