Adaptations Galore! New Anime Announcements!

L.B. Bryant by L.B. Bryant

There are so many announcements to keep track of these days, so enjoy this wrap-up of all the various adaptations announced over the last two weeks!

ANIME

GAMES

  • An anime adaptation for the PC bishoujo game 9-nine- is moving forward. Its production committee is going all in by already releasing a teaser video (see below) and announcing an orchestral concert on September 8th in Tokyo. The game from Palette (Mashiroiro Symphony) will become a TV series that will air at an unknown date. (Eiga.com)
  • The hit PC murder mystery game Among Us is headed for an anime adaptation. Its format or release date is not yet available, but there is a trailer. (Otakomu, Famitsu)

  • Video game fans can rejoice as the Guilty Gear fighting game series will get an anime adaptation, too. Produced by studio Sanzigen and directed by Shigeru Morikawa, there isn’t much besides the key visual. (Otakomu)

MANGA & LIGHT NOVELS

  • The next impossibly long light novel title to be adapted into an anime is Hazure Skill “Kinomi Master:” Skill no Mi (Tabetara Shinu) wo Mugen ni Taberareru You ni Natta Ken ni Tsuite. Roughly translated as Useless Skill: Nut Master (yes, I double-checked that), the fantasy-adventure series is headed for television screens. (Comic Natalie, J-List)
  • Manga series Hana wa Saku, Shura no Gotoku is headed for television screens in 2025. Studio Bind will produce the series with Uwano Ayumu as the director, working off Fudeyasu Kazuyuki’s series composition. The announcement featured the key visual below. (Spice)

  • Another manga headed for television in 2025 is the shonen series Gachiakuta. Produced by the famed Studio Bones, this series combines graffiti art with manga style to create a gritty story starring a character born in the slums. Framed for a crime he didn’t commit, he’s thrown into a dark pit where he discovers his hidden power. (Anime Eiga)

ORIGINALS

  • During one Next On Netflix presentation, the streaming giant announced a new title, Tokyo Override, along with some crew details. Produced by the Thai-based RiFF studio, this title is directed by Yusuke Fukada and Veerapatra Jinanavin. Netflix describes the series as:

In AI-optimized Tokyo 100 years in the future, an orphan teenage hacker blends in until a favor for her only friend inadvertently draws her into a benevolent gang of outcast motorcyclists, uncovering the seemingly utopian city’s sinister underbelly through a murder investigation linked to a drug syndicate. Yusuke Fukada and Veerapatra Jinanavin direct the series in collaboration with YAMAHA MOTOR CO., LTD. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd.

Anime News Network
  • King Records, Aria Entertainment, and toy company Takara Tomy have revealed plans to team up for a new multimedia project that includes music, anime, and toys. Titled Prinsession Orchestra (Princess Session Orchestra), the collaboration has already revealed the cast, crew, and a promotional video for the project. (MyAnimeList)

LIVE-ACTION

GAMES

  • Social network users tagged me the most about this news when the announcement broke! The video game series Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be turned into a six-episode live-action series on Amazon Prime later this year in two batches (October 25th and November 1st). With Masaharu Take as the director and Ryoma Takeuchi taking on the lead role of Kazuma Kiryu, this will be a project worth keeping your eyes on! (IGN)

MANGA

  • This live-action adaptation of the manga series Furitsumore Kodoku na Shi yo has received almost no notice. Airing in July, the dark mystery series begins with the remains of thirteen children being found in a mansion with a mysterious mark being present at the scene. Nothing happens for seven years until a Tokyo girl goes missing, and the mysterious mark reappears. (Eiga)
  • Yuri fans should add July 4th to their calendars as the manga series Ayaka is in Love With Hiroko (Japanese title: Ayaka-chan wa Hiroko-senpai ni Koishiteru) is getting a live-action adaptation. The office romance series features two women office workers who each have a crush on the other but think the other is straight. (Anime News Network)
  • Possibly the most exciting announcement in this edition is that the hit manga Cells At Work! will see a live-action movie adaptation. A trailer already online promises a December release. The movie stars Mei Nagano as the Red Blood Cell, with Takeru Sato as the White Blood Cell. (Comic Natalie)
  • For the BL fans, the manga series Sugar Dog Life will head to the small screen in Japan starting on August 3rd. The live-action adaptation will star Koki Tanaka and Tomoyoshi Tawada in the lead roles. The story is about a relationship between a 20-something college student and a police officer who is ten years older and the struggles they face. (Comic Natalie)
  • Closing out this section, we have news that the manga series Stardust Telepath will not only get a live-action adaptation, but members of AKB48 will fill the roles. That will certainly be interesting to watch. (AnimeAnime.jp)

SEQUELS

  • First up in the sequel department, the parody series Mr. Osomatsu is receiving a fourth season. (Anime Eiga)
  • Another series that excites me in all sorts of ways was the big reveal of Spy x Family season three! Once again, no word on when we’ll see it. (Anime News Network)
  • Harem series The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really Love You is getting a second season. It will air in January 2025. (Otakomu)
  • Yet another sequel that will make Trigger fans happy because Delicious in Dungeon will receive a second season. (Esteru)

STAGE

  • Beastars will be getting a musical adaptation on stage. Ryuga Sato will play Legoshi. (Comic Natalie)
