This summer, the Hatsune Miku Expo is coming back in a unique way.
Due to the coronavirus, all of the scheduled Hatsune Miko Expo concerts for 2020 were canceled and, sadly, Crypton Future Media won’t be able to host their concert in the usual concert halls across the world this year either. Instead, Miku Hatsune and her companion Vocaloids will be performing an online concert! And what’s more — it will be completely free to stream! The streams will be available on both Twitch and YouTube, live.
According to the official Miku Expo website, the theme for this year’s tour is “A free online concert made together with fans from around the world!” So, no matter where you are or who your favorite Vocaloid is, you can watch the concert from the comforts of your own home. There are going to be three showings on Sunday, June 6th (in Japan), each with the same lineup of songs and singers. All times and dates listed are in Japan Standard Time. So, for America, the concerts will begin somewhere between the evening on Saturday, June 5th, to early morning on Sunday, June 6th. The first showing is on Sunday, June 6th at 10 AM JST, which is Saturday, June 5th at 6 PM PST and 9 PM EST. The other two concerts are evening shows in Japan, starting at 5 PM JST (1 AM PST and 4 AM EST) and 9 PM JST (5 AM PST and 8 AM EST).
Every year, there is an official theme song for the Miku Expo tour. For the USA and Mexico concerts over the years, the songs have been “Sharing The World” (2014), “Blue Star”(2016), and “Decade”(2018). This year, the official theme song for Miku Expo 2021 is “Highlight” by KIRA. The music video for “Highlight” is now available to watch on the official Hatsune Miku YouTube channel. According to the channel, the song was made by KIRA from Germany, the artwork is done by Ekkoberry from New Zealand, and the animation was done by riguruma from Russia, which definitely fits this tour’s theme.
I know I’m excited to see the rest of the song lineup for Hatsune Miku Expo 2021. I hope you are too!
