Walking forward to a new spring.
Along with the airdate for Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demon Front -Babylonia- Aniplex and Ufotable have released a teaser trailer and the first key visual for the final film of the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel trilogy: Spring Song. While a theatrical release date has yet to be confirmed, it is slated for a spring release in Japan, 2020.
The Heaven’s Feel trilogy covers the final story route of the Fate/Stay Night visual novel. Commonly considered the darkest route, Heaven’s Feel has less focus on Shirou Emiya compared to previous anime adaptations, such as Unlimited Blade Works. In addition, the film trilogy expects fans to be somewhat familiar with the premise of Fate before watching, as the first film, in particular, is known to rush through the story’s prologue material. While Shirou is still the main hero, Heaven’s Feel gives the spotlight to his long-time friend and love interest, Sakura Matou. Fans who have seen previous adaptations from the anime will still have something new to experience, as Heaven’s Feel is easily the biggest divergent route from the usual Holy Grail War.
Sakura Matou, though pure and innocent-looking, has much more to her than meets the eye. She is the only key character involved who is not initially intended to participate in the Holy Grail War. In the visual novel, the player’s choices can lead to a turn of events in which Sakura steals the master slot originally intended for her older brother, Shinji. As a result, Sakura gains control of the Rider servant for the remainder of the story. Thus the player is sent down the Heaven’s Feel story route.
Given the notion that the Holy Grail War is intended to be a fight to the death between participants, Shirou becomes fearful of the potential outcome and grows increasingly protective over Sakura, not wanting to see her get hurt. Despite this, they are both aware that one of them will have to die for the war to end. This creates an internal struggle between them, as well as their classmate, Rin Tohsaka, who is later revealed to be Sakura’s long-lost sister. She’s also a participant. The cause for their separation will be a critical detail in explaining Sakura’s role in the Holy Grail War, as well as the dark secrets of the Matou family during the previous Holy Grail War when the three were only children.
