First Thoughts on Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun.
Has cultured anime returned for the masses? Ecchi and uncensored shows felt ignored as Western streaming services (like Netflix and Crunchyroll) started dominating the market and availability of anime. Asian countries could still rely on late-night cable broadcasts and specific streaming channels, but Western fans had to buy the Blu-rays or rely on less-than-legal means to free the nipple. However, 2025 appears to have busted through a wall and allowed a trickle of titles. Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun (さわらないで小手指くん, Hands off: Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun) continues the trend with Tales of Wedding Rings S2 for the fall anime season.
I enjoy noticing that the anime industry is bringing back the ecchi genre. However, Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun fails to break new ground. The setting contains two traditional scenarios, both of which promote sexy, fanservice scenes — the dormitory caretaker and physical therapist. The accidental harem king (a lone man in a building surrounded by nubile women) is fodder for many anime, like Mother of Goddess’ Dormitory and numerous doujins. And we saw a physical therapist lay his hands on monster girls from another world last year through Plus-Sized Elf. Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun will fit better into the sports procedural genre, matching the fun How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?.
So, there’s nothing new for this short-form anime except that it keeps the streak going for at least one uncensored anime that the cultured can watch each anime season. Thank you, Sawaranaide Kotesashi-kun!
