The saying “time is money” has never been truer than in the game President Yukino, published by Kagura Games: a quality (and relatively new) publisher of “Visual Novel” games. Created by developer Acerola, and a spin-off of Treasure Hunter Claire, in President Yukino the player must guide the naive and klutzy, but earnest, Makihara Yukino as she attempts to achieve her ultimate goal: going to the same college as her boyfriend. Unfortunately for her, and all you students out there, college costs money, and she doesn’t have it. So Yukino turns to part-time work to solve her money troubles, with over a dozen jobs available to her as you decide exactly how far Yukino will go on her quest.
Be warned, not of spoilers, but of content: this game has high-quality art, an enjoyable protagonist, and simulation gameplay, but if you are not the age of majority (typically eighteen) in your country, this game isn’t for you (yet). It definitely contains adult content.
Oh, and there’s NTR as well. You’ve been warned.
I play a variety of visual novels, but tend to stick to the classic gameplay, which is to say that I prefer visual novels that are about interaction, and reading, which is what defines the genre in Japan. President Yukino is not that kind of visual novel. It was on sale recently though and has quality artwork, so I took a chance. Before you get any further, yes I do recommend this game, and I even recommend it for its full price.
This game is an RPG, and simulation, where you take on the role of Yukino, and control her actions during free time, with the goal of the game being to earn enough money to go to college. You have 60 days to do this. I’ll admit that I failed to earn enough money on my first playthrough, no matter how naughty Yukino acted at my direction, which is a requirement for what was, as far as I could tell, the highest paying job in the game. No worries though, if you can’t make enough the first time, the new game plus feature has your back, giving you half the money you need from day 1, and setting you up to succeed even without driving Yukino down into the depths of depravity.
Since this game is an RPG, I’m sure some of you are curious about the mechanics. Well, there are actually quite a few, but I’m going to focus on Yukino’s clothes and jobs.
Yukino has a variety of outfits you can buy for her, that will cut into the money you need to be saving. The good news here too: any outfit you buy stays bought in new game plus, saving you yet more money (and setting you up to become filthy rich, filthiness optional). The above outfits are what you start with, though just because she starts with an outfit doesn’t mean you can wear it yet: Yukino has a level of Shyness that goes down as she encounters embarrassing, and risqué, situations and most of her outfits need her to loosen up a little, with some requiring very low levels of Shyness.
To get different jobs, Yukino needs different outfits, and these are a huge money sink during your first playthrough. Thankfully, the game gives you time to get used to the mechanics, with jobs that require lower Shyness also locked behind a timer, only becoming available after a certain number of days. While that can seem painful when you’re trying to make as much money as fast as possible, all jobs are unlocked before half your days’ pass. Jobs have a lot of requirements though, from Stamina, which is used by all jobs, and basically measures if you have the energy to work, to a required outfit, whether it is available in the morning, or afternoon, the days of the week the job is available, and how much it pays. If you can work a job, it says “OK” in green, and you’re good to go earn some money.
Jobs are also the main source of events. Events, in this case, which are lewd in nature, and escalates from accidental to full-on naughtiness that Yukino participates in freely. Each job lets you know if you meet the requirements for an event just like it does for the job, and has its own set of requirements. The main stat required is Desire, and keeping Desire low is the main way to work a specific job without Yukino acting out (avoiding NTR content).
There are other mechanics, and a series of story routes, but they play more into NTR content, and spoilers, so I’ll leave them for you to discover for yourself.
President Yukino is an enjoyable slice-of-life RPG visual novel, that is only one of Kagura Games’ growing library. If you’re interested in this game, or others, you can purchase it on Steam or head on over to JAST USA and browse. The history of adult games has been tied to J-List since the beginning, and it’s going to continue into the future. If President Yukino is an example of that future, then it’s going to be stuffed with quality content.
