A Loyal Gyaru is a Beautiful Gyaru
Kuro Gyaru à la Carte is a collection of multiple stories with one through line: loyal affections. To contrast with their dark skin, scandalous underwear, and slutty reputations, these gyaru are lovey-dovey loyalists. While they have a variety of personalities and are affectionate toward a selection of men who are admittedly a touch generic, these gyaru are one-man women. Whether dating, obsessing, or making memories, vanilla lovers rejoice, this gyaru tankoubon is for you.
Taste Testing Kuro Gyaru à la Carte
Don’t worry, I won’t leave you with only loyal gyaru affection. After all, while vanilla gyaru may be novel, a single tag is a tip promptly slurped up. If you pick up Kuro Gyaru à la Carte, you will get to enjoy:
- A gyaru who dresses her childhood friend up in bear costumes because she loves teddy bears, and declares: “I don’t wanna suck off anyone else.”
- A protagonist who wins a standoffish gyaru. She has a boyfriend, but boy number two captures her heart with gifts to get in the door, then makes her feel seen with photography.
- A virginal gyaru who insists she’s experienced because she’s sure that’s what guys want (at least in a gyaru).
- A short king with the guts to declare his desires, and who keeps winning, as his gyaru neighbor’s parting line is: “Come inside?”
- . . . and more.
Kuro Gyaru à la Carte surprised me most with what I’ll call ‘vanilla fetishes.’ Dressing a boy you like up as a teddy bear because they’re cute? Being photographed not as a sex object, but because the photographer appreciates your beauty? These gyaru are drowning in loving little fetishes that inspire heartwarming tastes. You’ve been warmed. Err, warned.
Good Looking Gyaru
And the aesthetics of these stories match the tone. There are no monster cocks, water parks’ worth of bodily fluids, bodies that look starved, or back pain sufferers here. Every gyaru is tanned. Every guy is reasonably endowed. Oh, and there are no tan lines in sight. Do these gyaru use tanning booths, or sunbathe on their roofs? You decide.
The stories are funny too. Not hilarious, but the writing takes advantage of the vanilla stories to make simple, comfortable jokes, and funnily intermixes heartwarming and lewd lines.
Is a Kuro Gyaru à la Carte Appetizer Enough?

You know the base flavor: vanilla. You know the main ingredient: gyaru. And you’ve just seen the art, and a selection of the most quotable pages. What are you waiting for? If this appetizer isn’t enough loving gyaru action for you, go get Kuro Gyaru à la Carte right now.
