Episode 4 – “Kotokawa Akira Is Nurturing”

I liked how One Room connected the imagery and themes of growing vegetables to nurturing feelings between Akira and her senpai. Plants can’t grow in the dark, they need sunlight, and their roots need proper soil and the right amount of water. Love grows from a small seed in metaphorically the same way. Feelings need to be out in the open, they wither if kept secret, and their foundations need to be on fertile and solid ground. Let’s hope another typhoon doesn’t wash away Akira’s and “your” feelings during a long-distance relationship.

Aw. The gardening clubroom is back to spartan mode. Akira took all her cute decorations with her. Oops! She forgot her notebook. Will “you” see her again to return it? Aaah! Akira “wants to stay with Senpai forever.” She wrote that about “you!” And now she’s moving away and can’t share this one room with “you” anymore. Ha! She’s right here and she grabbed the notebook away from “you.” She’s in regular clothes too, not the school uniform. That makes moving away official.
How embarrassing for Akira! “You” read about her feelings for “you.” This is adorable. She ran out of “your” one room! “You” better run after her! That’s right! It’s not fair “you” know how she feels but “you” haven’t told her anything. Coward. Don’t chicken out now! Well, “your” timing could be better, but at least “you” don’t have regrets.
Akira worries about forgetting each other’s feelings because of the distance. Smooth. Look at “you!” Remembering how she wanted to grow carrots. One Room also made sure the audience paid attention to her carrot pen. If she takes care of the seeds “you” gave her, it’s almost like she’s making sure “your” feelings grow big and strong. We can talk about her making other things grow big and strong later… Wow, “you’re” so talkative now. “You” keep interrupting Akira so we can barely tell what “you” just said when she repeats it.
“You” did it! And Akira loves “you” back! Way to go, bro! Uh, now what? Kyaa! Akira is so bold! Yup. “You” need to make up for “your” missed opportunity during the typhoon. First love and first kiss in a rooftop garden. This place could be “your” one room too.
One Room’s epilogue time. “Your” essential gardening tools, with the most essential being Akira on a smartphone video chat. I hope she leaned her phone up against a wall from a bench, because I don’t want to think about NTR scenarios in my fluffy love story. It looks like a happy ending from “your” side.
