Haite Kudasai, Takamine-san, Episode 9 — Slippery When Wet!

Episode 9 — “Let Me Do It!!”

Takamine-san Makes Me Go Hmm.

Predictable jealousy in Takane’s character is the formula for efficient content creation in Takamine-san. Just look at how spying on Koushi and Ellie almost engaging in a water balloon fight in the last episode generated two-thirds of one in the ninth. Character development and characterization are the keys to audiences enjoying serial storytelling. How? Watchers and readers won’t buy the escalating ridiculous events happening to the main characters if they don’t believe they would initiate them. Viewers come back weekly to see characters create scenarios based on their character flaws (or how they react to them).

That’s the ecchi comedy algorithm that Takamine-san has successfully employed. First, show the audience how each character generates or bounces comedically off events from the others. Second, use the improvisational comedy ethos of embracing the power of “and.” Then you’ll see an author drag viewers through a crescendo of outrageous situations. You already accept that Takane is manipulative and jealous in Takamine-san, so you are ready to buy how she quirkily lies about past events to paint her in the best light and Koushi as the worst.

Well-defined characters in comedy make writing scenes easy. The dialogue, Koushi’s straight-man reactions, and Takane’s perverted mind easily fill out a half-hour comedy when (literally) all that happened was three characters ate at a restaurant, threw water balloons at each other, and went on a date at a tourist spot. We can laugh at the jokes and ogle the bare nipples that Takamine-san uses as punchlines.

Heh.

Wow. So much happens in this Takamine-san episode that it doesn’t show the opening credit sequence. Or there’s so much yakking that the editors couldn’t cut out 90 seconds of it. Sure, I believe it. Takane “coincidentally” walked by Ellie and Koushi’s cram school as it let out for the day. Ellie suggests hanging out at a family restaurant. That’s a staple of slice-of-life anime characters wasting time. Hello, new character, Rurika! She’s the emotionless, sleepy type. She gives Ellie extra fries. I wonder why! Takane doesn’t eat many carbs to maintain her figure. Of course.

Uh oh. Koushi and Ellie talking about their shared experiences in class makes Takane jealous. My ears perked up. Ellie has memories of the three of them playing together. Did Koushi pick that up? Takane is so petty. She’s trying to make Ellie jealous by relaying all the nakedness and depravity of her study session with Koushi in Takamine-san, episode 5. Ellie is such a pure, pure girl. She doesn’t know about ecchi cosplay or literary words for nudity. Takane can’t make Ellie jealous back because the poor girl is so innocent.

Oh! Here’s another reason Takane can’t make Ellie jealous. She swings the other way! With Rurika! But Takane still won’t admit her romantic feelings toward Koushi to anyone else. Well. Takane no longer should worry about Ellie being a love rival.

Takamine-san Bursting Balloons and Licking Belly Buttons

Whoops! Koushi’s tribulations continue. Takane needs to have her own water balloon fight to make up for the one he had with Ellie in Takamine-san, episode 8. Except, they never had a fight. Ellie only got wet and showed her belly and hard nipples. Takane can do that! But Rurika did not appreciate meeting a love rival at her restaurant. Never mind that. Water balloon makeup time! The loser must do what the winner says! Tease that guy with your black underwear! Ack. Impatience! Koushi must die by water balloon!

What is Koushi’s punishment? Wiping Takane’s sweat with his tongue. Some penalty. Everything here is to match what happened with the “slut” Ellie. Except the licking is on armpits and belly buttons. That’s too much stimulation for eternal virgin Koushi. Takamine-san loves checking those public sex hentai tags. Takane, a virgin herself, feels too much enjoyment from tongue-wagging. The intensity’s purpose was for Koushi to forget his ice cream licking with Ellie. So petty!

The intermission visuals show Takane in a barely there China Dress and the less barely there lingerie underneath!

Takamine-san Rocks the Boat!

Aw. It’s the last day of Takamine-san’s summer girlfriend experience. Takane invited Koushi out on a day trip! But she keeps rewinding time after he tries too hard to do something for her. This is her day to do something for him! Of course, she denies needing anything from him to dissuade Koushi from doing her favors. For example, she doesn’t need something cute to look at when she can admire her naked form in the mirror whenever she wants. Point taken!

Both kids should learn how to accept gifts from each other. Like Takane giving her “first time” to Koushi. On a boat. A boat ride! Ah, it all sounds like innuendo. I’ll accept the gift of Takane flashing her wet underwear, though!

Oh no! Takane gave her secret away! She can put her lingerie back on herself after she uses Eternal Virgin Road. Koushi isn’t necessary at all! That kid is still slow. He finally understood why Takane acted so frustrated with him. He should have graciously accepted her reward of spending the day with him. His low self-esteem struck again. But don’t get cocky, Koushi!
