Episode 1 — “Commanders’ Meeting”
First Thoughts on Chained Soldier S2.
Two years after the first season of Chained Soldier (Mato Seihei no Slave) ended, its production committee switched anime studios. That was sure to shape the animation style, direction, and overall feel of Chained Soldier. Was it clear in the first episode?
Yes!
Studio Passione took over from Seven Arcs, and I saw the hallmarks of the studio famous for making female body parts soft, smooth, and irresistibly touchable. Passione enhanced the character designs and intensified the fan service. Chained Soldier hasn’t released the sweater hounds yet. But detailed panties, puffy crotch shots, and stiff nipples through military uniforms abounded. Applying the Passione filter to bodies and faces wasn’t the only change, however.

The CGI monsters (Shuuki — 醜鬼, ugly demon) resemble animated creatures instead of sprites who dropped in from a WoW server, which was the top knock on Seven Arcs’s otherwise enjoyable 2024 production. Compliments to Passione because the look and feel of Chained Soldier S2 are praiseworthy improvements.
Hmm.
The first episode of Chained Soldier’s second season clearly suffered from catch-up syndrome. Thankfully, the character, setting, and current timeline info dumps unfolded naturally, avoiding the cliché of characters sitting around a table talking to each other as if they had not been paying attention up until five minutes ago. We jumped right into the anime after the events of its last season.
Still, I found the flashback scenes from the previous season jarring as they bounced between Seven Arcs’s production values and Passione’s. They show how fortunate the audience is to have a famous ecchi anime studio taking the reins for Chained Soldier’s sexy action comedy. I can’t wait to see Kyouka let the other Demon Defense Forces squadron commanders borrow Yuuki, and the “payment” he’ll extract from them. Good times. Good times, indeed!
Chained Soldier Makes Me Say Heh.
The action for Chained Soldier’s return kicks off immediately. The Shuuki (demon foot soldiers) display better CGI visuals than the first season. But first, let’s reacquaint ourselves with the Demon Defense Force 7th Squadron’s dormmates. Yuuki washes clothes, takes inventory of the pantry, massages giant girls, and trains in martial arts. We saw their dorm life, but the 7th Squadron will show us how they fight the Shuuki. Chained Soldier seizes this moment to show us the girls’ abilities.
The 7th Squadron will support the 6th Squadron in search and rescue and enemy repulsion operations. Shushu still puts her jeep-driving skills to constructive use. Even a giant girl needs a wingman — Kyouka and Yuuki to the rescue! Oh, look. Chained Soldier S2 reviews the 6th Squadron’s members and abilities, too. And Yuuki reminds us of what he has at stake: his humanoid Shuuki sister, Aoba.

New season, new opening credits. It features all nine Demon Defense Squadron Commanders. That’s one way to count to nine, but I racked up to eighteen. Emphasis on “rack.” Himari and Yachiho’s mother could count double!
Back to the episode — What is Yuuki’s reward from Kyouka? Studio Passione is already turning these scenes into something extraordinary! Sexually suggestive humor? Absolutely! Yuuki desired Kyouka to stretch his hamstrings in bed and lick his chest. Oh boy. Who will remember Chained Soldier’s exposition about Kyouka’s ambitions to become Supreme Commander to expose corruption while she’s only wearing her underwear?
Tenka knows where Aoba’s hideout is and still wants to be her sister-in-law! Tenka told Aoba about the upcoming squadron commanders’ meeting. I hope that’s not a point of contention later. Of course, it will be.
Take Your Slave to Work Day
Location: Demon Defense Force and the 10th Squadron’s headquarters. The Supreme Commander also ordered Yuuki to attend. Oh? Kyouka already worries about Tenka’s interest in Yuuki. Could the Supreme Commander be lusting after his laundry skills? Let’s meet the other squadron commanders in Chained Soldier.
Mira and Kyouka have a tough girl friendship. I like her. Mira is a banchou (gang leader) with a heart of gold. Har! Kyouka warned Yuuki against making eye contact with Supreme Commander Ren Yamashiro. But her facial expression doesn’t look like she’s happy to see him. I saw only nine commanders at this meeting because there’s no 4th Squadron. Four (四, よん, シ, yon, shi) is an unlucky number in Japan because one of its pronunciations, shi, sounds like “death” (死, シ, しぬ, shi, shinu).
Okay, so the commanders have matters to discuss in Chained Soldier. Those “Eight Thunder Gods” who took Aoba’s friends are on the agenda. Ren will give the 3rd Squadron commander extra lessons in beating those unique Shuuki. Kyouka proposed an offensive strategy to deal with them, but Ren prefers they maintain their defensive posture.
Next on the agenda? Yuuki! Tenka cheers for her future husband. Whoa. Fubuki Azuma is Yachiho and Himari’s mother! MILF action is on Yuuki’s menu. And the following item? A horde of Shuuki charges full tilt toward their location! Here we go. Chained Soldier takes advantage of this plot point to display the squadron commanders’ abilities and personalities. Yakumo (5th Squadron) relaxes Bell (3rd Squadron) through heavy petting. Ren swiftly calls the situation suspicious and issues orders.
Protecting Luscious Japanese Peaches for Chained Soldier’s Subplot
The other squadron commanders live up to their reputations. But they found something eerie about the Shuuki army: some of them exploded like booby traps. Ren orders Kyouka and Yuuki to accompany her to the area potentially holding the Shuuki army’s controllers.
Lame. The Shuuki army leaders are foreign terrorists aiming to steal Mato Peaches. They even have a twisted version of Yuuki with them — a gimp instead of a slave. They’re no match for Ren’s collection of skills within her peach ability. She’s like Neo from the Matrix. I’m sure Chained Soldier will explain the inner workings of Ren’s abilities during the season, but her “broken” skill stops others from using their abilities. The fight is over before Kyouka and Yuuki even arrive.
Hoho. Ren wished to witness Kyouka rewarding Yuuki after she fulfilled the slave contract. What did Yuuki desire this time? A motorboating lovey-dovey hug! That’s it? Hey. Kyouka only rode Yuuki somewhere and didn’t do much at all. Har. Ren treats Yuuki like a trained dog. She reminds him of how Aoba treated him as they grew up together.
