The official trailer for the live-action Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie was uploaded on Monday by Warner Bros. The video gives us a first look on the 3D CGI Pokemon as well as the official main cast. The big highlight was the 3D CGI Pikachu voiced by Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool).
The film is slated to be released in cinemas on May 10, 2019. The movie will be distributed in Japan by TOHO while Warner Bros will distribute the film in North America. It is based from the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name that was released in 2016 in Japan and in the US, Europe, Australia on March 2018.
While some find the trailer to be convincing and something to look forward to next year, others have commented that the movie is quite different from its original source material. One big factor was the main protagonist Tim Goodman played by Justice Smith. The movie also stars Kathryn Newton as Lucy, Ken Watanabe as Detective Yoshida, Paul Kitson as Harry Goodman, Karan Soni as Jack, Omar Chapman as Sebastian, as well as Rita Ora, Bill Nighy, Suki Waterhouse, and Chris Geere. Ikue Otani is also listed in the cast as the original voice of Pikachu.
After the trailer was released, people on Twitter got creative posting their reactions about the film trailer in memes and artwork.
