The Dream Partner for an Otaku Might Not be Another Otaku

Although we splurge ourselves into a lot of our favorite anime franchises and spending a lot for them, we never forget the fact that we also deserve to be loved especially for a specific someone. When you have found that person and finally made a decision to settle in, it feels like it’s a dream come true and something that came out of a romantic movie or anime.

We are so sorry to break it you—but maybe that dream otaku boy or girl that you are expecting to get married with might not be the ideal person for you.

Inuyasha

Twitter user @hikarin22 is a Japanese marriage consultant and expresses that marrying another otaku doesn’t really assure a long-lasting and happy married life. Your ideal partner should be someone that have a different set of traits as you.

The translation of the tweet says:

The kind of person an otaku will be happy being married to isn’t another otaku. It’s a person who’ll understand and accept the amount of time and money you spend on your otaku hobbies, and that honestly doesn’t depend at all on whether your spouse is an otaku or not. Even if you’re married to an otaku, if you aren’t understanding of each other’s hobbies or have different attitudes about money and finances, you’ll just end up fighting.

Sakuya Syaoran

A majority of Japanese who replied to the Twitter thread all agree to this. It is best to have someone who understands the level of love and appreciation of the franchise or genre you support. Of course, this will not just apply to fans of anime and manga—it can also apply in video games, merchandise, and so on. In one of the tweet replies, one said that “The best thing is to try to find someone who spends a similar amount on their hobbies per month as you do.”

Goku Chichi

It would be sad that once you have settled with your real life otaku waifu or husbando, you realize too late that he or she isn’t really the understanding person you expected. Later on, you would probably argue to the smallest of things like your excessive spending on gashapon and the number of hours you spend watching anime on TV or playing on your favorite game console. If that continues, then the inevitable like separation or even a divorce might happen between you.

Naruto Shippuden FINAL Episode Naruto And Hinata

The advantage of the differences that you have for each other is that one would be able to understand and slowly appreciate what he or she likes. For the record, this takes time and not a snap of a finger (this why you go years of dating each other before you marry so you get to know them better). Hopefully to those who are still looking for “the one”, I hope it is that someone who is unique and willing to go through heaven and hell with your otaku wants and needs no matter what.
