Lost in Translation: Who Is Melody Marks?
Melody Hiina Marks (the middle name is sometimes written “Hina”) was born February 29, 2000, on Leap Day. Although she’s marketed in Japan as “a Nordic beauty,” she’s actually from Ohio.
She debuted in the U.S. porn scene as Melody Marks in 2018. Someone at Japanese porn producer Momotaro Eizo saw her videos and thought her “baby face” would be popular with Japanese fans. Melody was dubious about the contract offer, but the enthusiasm of the Japanese producers convinced her to give it a try. She got her first-ever passport and got on a plane to Tokyo.
She debuted in Japan under the name Melody Hiina Marks (メロディー・雛・マークス) in 2020, with the Japanese name added to pique the interest of Japanese fans. Her debut release set a record on FANZA, and fans went wild for this fresh new face in the JAV world. Her photo book Mellow Melody is one of the top-sellers on J-List.
How Did Melody Marks Become One of Japan’s Top JAV Stars?
Let’s hear in Melody Marks’ own words how she ended up becoming one of the top names in the JAV world! The following interview was compiled from several Japanese interviews.
So, how did you get into the adult film industry?
An ex-boyfriend joked that I should try porn when I couldn’t find a job in the medical field in LA. I thought it was a great idea and applied online to an agency, though I didn’t expect anything to come of it. They asked me to send a bunch of photos of me naked in different positions, then they gave me the contract. I was shy and awkward on my first scene, but I liked it.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in Japan?
I like kawaii restaurants and sweet treats, even if they’re not good for me. I visit shrines to pray for health and happiness, and I try whatever my fans recommend. I learn a lot about Japan from my fans, and I really appreciate them. I go to cat cafes because I miss my cats back in the U.S.
How big are the sets you perform in?
In Japan, they’re pretty large. I often have twenty people coming and going. Makeup, hair, assistants doing various stuff. In America it’s usually around five people.
What’s the sexiest part of Melody Marks’ body?
My eyes when I look up, while sucking off an actor. I love that camera angle.
What surprised you about Japanese sex culture?
It’s very unique and charming, and you can’t see anything like it in foreign porn. Instead of being bold and wild, women show their embarassment during sex. I started picking up that energy in my own performances, as I was trying to do everything the Japanese way. So I actually learned shyness about sex for the first time in Japan.
What does Melody Marks think of Japanese men?
I think they’re very polite and charming, and men around the world should learn from them. I’d always heard that men in Japan are harder down there than in the West, and I can confirm that (laughs).

A soapland set impressed me most. We don’t have anything like that in America.

Where are you most sensitive?
My neck, more than my chest. Kisses on my neck or ears, or hands on my face, feel better to me than someone touching my breasts.
Does Melody Marks have a wild personal life, outside of work?
I’d describe myself as horny all the time. If I weren’t working in porn professionally, I’m sure I’d be even more wild with men out there. But I can’t do true one-night stands. It would be dangerous for me and my co-workers. I only see a few special friends in LA who get tested whenever I ask and wear condoms. When I first arrived in Japan I went a whole month without having sex, because I couldn’t read the test results, which were in Japanese.
How do you get into character?
Once my hair, makeup and outfit are done, I flip a switch in my brain and imagine there’s no one in the room except the guy I’ll be performing with. Whenever I’m working with a new company and crew I get nervous, because I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do my best around them.
What’s your favorite sexual position?
I used to like doggy style the best, but it can be painful on my back. These days I like the “piledriver” where the guy turns me upside down and enters from above. I also like being picked up and held in the air.
What do you think of sex parties?
I love going and just watching. It’s so much fun.
Do you have a sugar daddy?
No. I’m always the sugar mama, buying things for the guy I’m with, or doing special things for him in bed. I’d love to have the roles reversed just once.
