Takahiro Sato suddenly awakens in his in-game spaceship without life support active. After dealing with a group of space pirates, he heads to the nearest space colony to get his bearings. We’ll see how his space-faring isekai adventure unfolds when Reborn as a Space Mercenary: I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship! (Mezametara Saikyo Sobi to Uchusenmochi Datta node, Ikkodate Mezashite Yohei toshite Jiyuu ni Ikitai) premieres sometime in October 2026.

Ryuto released the original Reborn as a Space Mercenary novel series on the user-generated website Shosetsuka ni Naro on February 4th, 2019. Tetsuhiro Nabeshima provided art for the light novel adaptation, which debuted on July 10th, 2019. Fujimi Shobo published sixteen volumes in the Kadokawa Books imprint. Shinichi Matsui provided art for the manga adaptation, which debuted on November 24th, 2019. Media Factory published eleven volumes in ComicWalker.

The new isekai protagonist and two of his new waifus are as follows:

Takahiro Sato / Hiro — Makoto Furukawa (Rider of Red/Achilles from Fate/Apocrypha). Hiro went from Japanese salaryman to stellar space mercenary.
Elma Willrose — Anna Nagase (Boxers, Isabella from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners). Elma is an elf-like alien and Hiro’s first mercenary friend.
Serena Holz — Haruka Shiraishi (Chitose Shirakawa in The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten). Serena is a noblewoman and an officer of the Imperial Military.

Reborn as a Space Mercenary With a Stellar Ship and Hot Crew

Takahiro Sato is a typical overworked Japanese salaryman who finds joy in playing video games. He abruptly awakens in his starship from the online game Stella Online, where he reigned as one of the top ten players. His ASX-08 Krishna operated the same, boasting speed and damage output capabilities, and his storage was full of food and rare materials, but the database was empty. Takahiro confirmed his ship’s abilities and his own gaming skills by easily wiping out a group of space pirates and taking their database to find the nearest colony.

Takahiro takes the name Hiro when he disembarks on the colony. A kind military officer named Elma Willrose forces her subordinate to clear him for entry after a scan reveals that his unlicensed ship carries valuable materials. A kind space elf gave him a tour and brought him to the mercenary guild to register him to work. That’s the complete isekai experience. Though his skills would easily put him in the Gold-Tier, the guild places him in Bronze, one rank above the bottom. A whole universe of adventure awaits him in the Sol system, even if the universe differs from the game he played in Japan.
