Who doesn’t like a good kemonomimi girl? The most popular type is the cat girl, but no one can deny the allure of a mysterious fox girl. That’s what the developers at Visualnoveler thought when making their newest game. Nezori is a lighthearted adventure starring a samurai fox girl.
The devs at Visualnoveler are cultured and have been working on their newest game for a while. According to the lead dev: “We’ve been working on Nezori for a little over three years now. We started planning it in early 2022.” There’s no Swords & Slippers-level fanservice, but it doesn’t take much effort to see fox girl panty shots. Yes, the open-zone, hack-and-slash visual novel Nezori features cute fox girls and panty shots to enjoy. Visualnoveler is currently raising funds to bring this game to life, so now is the time to get in and get some nice bonuses. The demo is available on Steam to play right now.
Fox Girls and Wolf Girls Are Primed for Battle in Nezori
Atsuko is the main fox girl in Nezori. She’s a studious and ambitious girl who hones her skill with the blade and tea preparation in equal measure. She hears about a special hot spring near a sacred shrine and wants to visit with her friends. However, it’s in Sothian territory, and those wolf girls don’t suffer fox girl invasions. She’ll be sure to help people along the way. It’s an RPG after all; side-quests are a must.
The devs spoke about their main fox girl. “The story begins when Atsuko, our protagonist, learns about the legendary hot springs said to have incredible healing properties. She wants to find the hot springs so everyone can benefit from them, but they’re on the land that belongs to their less-than-friendly neighbors (the wolf girls). Atsuko doesn’t give up easily, so she decides to fight her way through enemy territory in search of the legendary hot springs. It’s meant to be a more relaxed, lighthearted story.”
The tension between fox girls and wolf girls is the main centerpiece of this story. Atsuko can barely get a word in when she first meets the wolf leader, Yurika, before being told to take a hike. Atsuko does the opposite and heads straight for wolf girl territory. Despite that, the devs wanted to maintain a light-hearted tone. “Our goal was to create a game with a lighthearted tone where we could focus on delivering exciting action combat against humanoid enemies, so we started brainstorming ideas that would fit that context. Those early ideas developed into Nezori.”

Nezori‘s Hack-and-Slash Action
Atsuko travels around in open-zone areas to get where she needs to be. These areas are littered with enemies prepared to ruin her day. The combat is fairly simple, but the enemies hit hard. It won’t take long to figure out how to attack, but knowing when and where to make a stand is important. The attacks are fast and fluid, and Atsuko herself can move around quickly. Cultured players might want to jump and double jump around at certain camera angles.
When asked about Atsuko’s sword style and how it differs from her opponents, the devs at Visualnoveler said, “Atsuko is the sole playable character in Nezori, so her swordsmanship is at the heart of the game. Characters like Miyu, who fights with magic, are among the antagonists who oppose her as she searches for the hot springs.”

The CG art style is definitely reminiscent of classic visual novels. A hot spring daydream scene plays early on, highlighting the good old-fashioned visual novel flair. The Japanese-style clothing is all great to see. Samurai girls, ninja girls, and miko, everywhere. “Yes, we love both visual novels and JRPGs, so those were our sources of inspiration.”
When asked about the inclusion of animal-eared girls, “We thought kemonomimi (characters with animal ears and tails) would be appealing to people and let us create a variety of cute and attractive designs. From there, we decided to make the main character a fox girl since that isn’t seen as often, and made the antagonists wolf girls so they would be more intimidating in comparison.”

An Adventurous Conclusion
Nezori feels like a classic visual novel adventure game. A nice, light-hearted tale, some fun RPG mechanics, and plenty of waifus to appreciate. It’s a cozy time for all. We still have a bit of time to wait, however. “We’re quite far in development now, so we hope to proceed smoothly toward our planned 2026 launch.” What do you think of Nezori?
