After three months of high-spec, AI robot hilarity, Kakushite! Makina-san!! concluded this week. Given the state of the world, the loss of this paradigm of enjoyment will be lamented by the 15 people who watched this show. But, before I rave about the show, let’s chit-chat about what happened in Makina-san a Love Bot?!, episode 12.
Makina-san a Love Bot?!, Episode 12 — The Slow Life
Last week, there was a conspiracy to stick things up Eita’s bum. This week, the possibility of that horrid experience has been forgotten. In episode 11, it seemed inevitable that a wider story was about to flood in, but episode 12 of Kakushite! Makina-san!! went full high school slice-of-life on us. Unfortunately, with that episode came the hope that a broader story would be set in motion — or so we thought.
With Makina’s leg finally fixed, the kawaii, high-spec (questionable) robot was in high spirits this episode. But Mamimi looked at her chipper mood and immediately thought the worst. She was convinced that Eita had trapped Makina in a sex-training scenario. Press F for Mamimi, she’s the kind of easily influenced person who ruins hentai for all of us. When people talk about kids imitating what they see in porn, Mamimi is who they’re talking about. God gave Mamimi heavenly good looks because even He couldn’t give that yaoi addict any intelligence.
More than ever, the kawaii twin-tailed waifu tried to prevent Eita from creeping on Makina. But much like Iraq didn’t have WMDs, Eita doesn’t harbor hentai-plot thoughts. So, as Mamimi spends the episode assaulting Eita for no reason, Makina is orgasming while playing tennis. I’d be there every year if that’s what Wimbledon looked and sounded like.
For now, let’s go back to the “kind of” in the first paragraph of this section. While we didn’t get any grand love-bot development, Eita and Makina got caught doing something ecchi! But whatever comes from that, we won’t know since Makina-san a Love Bot?! ended on a cliffhanger. What I do know is that if the AI robots of the future are anything like the three in this show, we don’t have to worry about an iRobot-styled apocalypse.
Ranting and Raving About Kakushite! Makina-san!! — The Cons
There’s a lot I can say about this anime, and while most are positive, there are some issues. Most AnimeFesta titles are on the short side. I’ll celebrate short-form anime until I’m mentioned in an obituary, but shorter shows are an art that few people get right.
Yama no Susume is a perfect example of a well-done short-form anime. With seasons ranging from a few to fifteen minutes, Yama no Susume seems like something you’d watch on the bus to kill time during your commute. But the show made thousands of people (myself included) rush to summit mountain peaks. I’ve lauded Makina-san a Love Bot?! throughout the season. But, it should have used its limited time better. Repetition isn’t inherently problematic. However, when a show explores a story about potential warfare robots but dedicates half the season to apartment talk, it flirts with being unsatisfying.
While this next gripe isn’t on the anime itself, it does affect it. OceanVeil should have marketed this show better. I write for a few other anime blogs and they refused to cover Makina-san a Love Bot?! because they thought it was hentai. Even though I tried to explain that it was not, being in a streaming service filled with hentai doomed the anime to obscurity. Lamentably, while there was a lot of nudity in this show, it was the tamest ecchi of the season. I skipped Yandere Dark Elf and Please Put Them On, Takamine-san, but I’ve heard they are much more stimulating. That makes me believe that the lack of love Makina-san got from the anime news page is due to its streaming site. We saw that a while back with Magilumiere Co. Ltd., where limited availability and promotion hurt the show.
What I Loved About It
Being original is significantly more difficult than you’d think. Even the best-made stories borrow elements from other tales. But in a world where three out of every five shows are isekais about an overpowered guy in another world, anything different stands out. That said, we’ve gotten a few rom-coms with robo-waifus lately (like My Wife Has No Emotions and Atri: My Dear Moments). Yet, the intrigue of human/AI romance and intercourse remains high, so I appreciated the release of an ecchi anime in that vein.
This is unashamedly an ecchi show. Every episode featured prolonged nudity or lots of dirty talk and innuendo. And, since it was aired uncensored, we got to enjoy every moment. Makina has one of the best character designs I’ve seen in anime. Her expressions were adorable, and she was lovable despite her incessant nature. Tomoyo Takayanagi perfectly executed her voice acting in Makina-san a Love Bot?!. Likewise, Studio BloomZ’s production was enough to make me happy. There were moments when the show’s budget showed, but it never severely dulled my enjoyment.
Would I Recommend It?
Recommending ecchi shows can go really well or horribly wrong. There are no issues if you’re suggesting them to people who enjoy pervy content. But when introducing it to anime newcomers or those exploring pervy content for the first time, problems can arise. Still, I recommend Makina-san regardless — it’s short, hilarious, and packed with the type of scenes that make ecchi anime so exciting.
But how would I rate it? Would I recommend it as a 10/10 show? After all, I’ve frequently mentioned that it’s a 10/10 for me. My views aren’t carved in boulders; they’re written in the sand. Whenever new information or experiences change my perspective, I openly admit it. And this wretched cliffhanger changed my overall score. The only anime with a cliffhanger that earned full marks from me is Violet Evergarden. So, as much as it pains me, this anime isn’t getting a ten from me, especially when it had the chance to be a truly spectacular ecchi. My MAL account shows a 9/10 for Makina-san a Love Bot?!, and that’s what I’m stating here.
Makina-san a Love Bot?! Production Notes
Makina-san’s a Love Bot?! adapts Yoshimi Sato’s manga. Futabasha’s Monthly Action magazine first serialized the manga from October 2022 until its closure in February 2024. The Web Comic Action website took over the serialization in April 2024.
The Makina-san a Love Bot?! manga is currently ongoing. As of June 2025, the manga boasts five tankobon volumes. I lamented in my last article that there is no English version of this manga. While that statement is correct, Seven Seas Entertainment has licensed Kakushite! Makina-san!! They plan to release the first volume of the English translation on September 30. Hopefully, I won’t die in a remote place or from some random parasite before then.
Masayoshi Nishida directed the anime. Serena Kōzuki performed the awesome opening song, “Ie de Yeah! tte Age Tiger.” Brave Mental Orchestra is credited with the show’s ending song, “Android ni Kibuttake.” You can watch Kakushite!
