The anime industry took a couple of decades to finally take a closer look at From Far Away (Kanata kara) and realize how good it is. This is one of those classic shojo isekai series that everyone should check out at least once. It reminds me of Magic Knight Rayearth and even a bit of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Certain elements (like the guy’s hair) remind me of InuYasha, too. Buckle up. We’re dealing with sky demons this time around.

The isekai protagonist, her love interest, and their mutual enemy are as follows:
- Noriko Tachiki — Tomoyo Kurosawa (Edel from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). Noriko is a normal girl from Japan whose dreams led her to another world.
- Izark Kia Tarj — Kentaro Kumagai (a demon from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Izark is the feared reincarnation of a powerful demon.
- Rachef — Yuichiro Umehara (Sekido from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). Rachef is the ruthless leader of the Free City of Rienka.
Noriko and Izark will have their fateful encounter on October 4th, 2026. Studio Deen is responsible for the anime adaptation, with Noriyuki Abe as director. Rika Takasugi writes the series, Eiji Abiko designs the characters, and Takeshi Hama provides the music. Genin wa Jibun ni Aru performs the opening theme song “Tokoko,” and Nanashi no Taro performs the ending theme song “Hikari no Gawa de.”

From Far Away to Another World
There’s nothing like a classic isekai series. No complicated storylines, no edgy or gritty nonsense; it’s pure and simple. Noriko is suddenly drawn into the magical world she’s dreamed of for some time. She has visions of people prophesying her arrival and their desire to find and control her. See? Simple and clean. Noriko shows up, gets attacked by a monster, and her destined love arrives to save her.
The InuYasha comparisons are there, with Noriko being a kind-hearted girl who isn’t of much use in a fight, and Izark being a demonic being who would burn everything to protect his love interest. I’m looking forward to seeing how well they adapt the manga. It’s gonna be satisfying to see some of these villains get what’s coming to them. Then maybe, if this succeeds, we’ll see a return to these classic isekai series.

On her way home from school one day, Noriko is unexpectedly plunged into a strange and extraordinary fantasy world. Her troubles compound exponentially when she is rescued and befriended by a handsome young man by the name of Izark.
He may be brave and courageous, but inside Izark lurks the darkest evil imaginable. And according to an ancient prophecy, Noriko possesses the power to unleash that evil. Now, inexorably bound together, these two unlikely allies must navigate a world both wondrous and hostile.
Kyoko Hikawa released the original From Far Away manga series between September 24th, 1991, and October 24th, 2002. Hakusensha published all fourteen volumes in LaLa.
