Can a boy and a girl really experience friendship, or are they doomed to fall in love and ruin everything? That’s the bold question behind Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? No, It Can’t! a.k.a. Danjo no Yuujou wa Seiritsu suru? (Iya, Shinai!!), which is shortened to Danjoru. It’s a fun rom-com anime for 2025, packed with charming characters and tangled love triangles.

Do you need more awesome anime figures in your life? Great, because J-List has a huge number of gorgeous figures in stock, which are being closed out with a big 25% discount. The figures can all be at your house within a few days! Start browsing here!

Rom-Rom Anime 2025: Why You Should Watch Danjoru

Yuu Natsume is a boy with a dream: to one day make a shop selling original flower-based accessories he creates. But he’s terrible at actually selling them. Luckily for him, a bubbly girl named Himari adopts him and helps him sell all his flower accessories…and ends up becoming his best friend. Himari loves staring at Yuu’s intense eyes when he creates his jewelry but doesn’t feel any romantic attraction to him.

Things get more complex when Himari’s childhood friend Rin enters the scene. She’s wearing a bracelet that Yuu made two years before. But when we learn that Rin is the girl Yuu met many years ago at a botanical garden — his first love and the reason he became passionate about flowers — it feels like Yuu and Rin were meant to be together. Himari is happy to help along the budding couple’s relationship.

Danjo No Yuujou Wa Seiritsu Suru Jealousy

But, just when Yuu and Rin seem like they might start dating, Himari starts reconsidering her platonic relationship with Yuu. Will her unexpected feelings of jealousy create drama so the plot can move forward? Of course!

Himari is the star of the show in Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?

Himari is the Star of Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?

Main heroine, Himari, voiced by the talented Sayumi Suzuhiro (Kei from Kaguya-sama, Nijika from Bocchi the Rock!), is the heart of the show. She’s always teasing poor Yuu, clinging to him bodily and pretending she wants to do a “practice kiss” with him. It would frankly be great to have an intensely close friendship with a girl that wasn’t sexual…but of course, how could we fail to fall in love with a girl as cute as her, messing up the friendship?

But Himari can also be frustrating, pushing her two friends romantically together and then getting angry when they get closer. As she realizes her feelings for her best friend Yuu are more than just friendship, Himari isn’t very good at communication and lashes out, causing drama for all involved. She’s a cute girl, and it’s fun to follow her story in the anime. But if an IRL girl acted like this, we’d probably not want to know her.

A Convenient Romantic Setup?

Isn’t it a bit too convenient to have Rin be a fan of the original bracelet Yuu made, then turn out to be his first love from many years ago? Isn’t that the kind of story setup you would only find in an anime? Well, maybe…

Before I came to Japan, my favorite manga was Touch, a baseball manga about twin brothers who love high school baseball. I was surprised to learn that by random chance, the city I’d come to live in happened to be the birthplace of Touch artist Mitsuru Adachi. One day, I Googled his birthday and found it was February 9, the same birthday as Mrs. J-List. I certainly felt that the hand of destiny had brought me to Japan.

Can A Boy Girl Friendship Survive? Novel 2

If the story of Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive? sounds like it came from a light novel because it did. The novels are written by Nana Nanana (that’s quite a name) and art by Parum. The series is quite popular and has sold over 350,000 copies to date. Unfortunately, the novels haven’t been licensed for publishing in English.

A sexy moment from Danjoru

Thanks for reading this blog post about Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive?, a fun rom-com anime for 2025. I think it’s a decent season rom-com with characters I can feel invested in enough to watch through to the end. What do you think about the new show? Which girl are you rooting for?
