I’ve been a huge fan of Twitter ever since joining back in 2008, and I love engaging with anime fans and sharing pictures of anime boobs on the J-List X account there. Why Is Bluesky Fun to Use?

When Elon Musk bought Twitter a few years ago, there was a lot of negativity from various corners of the Internet. While I’m not happy with some of the changes in the general atmosphere of the site, I’ve gone on record defending Twitter and stating J-List’s support of the platform as “the last hope for sharing anime boobs.”

In a world dominated by the Zuccoverse — Facebook, Instagram and Threads — anime fans would be forced into self-censoring 80–90% of the content we want to share. Sexy artwork? Off-color memes? Discussions about niche topics like the otokonoko genre? They would all be off-limits, as they often are on Facebook. As an anime blogger, if I wanted to write about the history of anime pantsu, I’d be unable to share it on these platforms. It’d basically be living in the reality of SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist. Thankfully, Twitter/X is still fun to use, as long as you keep away from politicians.

Bluesky emerged as a clear alternative to Twitter last year, offering a fresh take on social media. We created an account early on, though some key features like video posting were initially unavailable. Fortunately, the platform has made great strides in recent months, evolving into an excellent space for anime fans to share clips, post sexy fanart, and engage in all the fun you’d expect from a top-tier social media site. Starting this week, J-List is posting on Bluesky daily — come join the conversation by following our account!

Bluesky Feels like Twitter Back in the Old Days, with No Algorithm

As I scroll through my feed, I see a huge variety of posts from the people I follow. Cosplayers. Anime memes. Lots of sexy fanart. There are no videos shoved in our faces showing violence or shock videos, trying to get us to react angrily. Best of all, I am seeing the posts by the people I follow, and nothing more.

Bluesky Is Okay with Anime Boobies

One thing I love about this platform is their policy on sexy anime content: it’s totally fine! Every user can set whether they want to view sensitive content by default, with a warning, or not at all. And there are different settings for different kinds of content, allowing me to choose different settings related to softcore ecchi, nudity, posts containing violence, etc. It’s the perfect solution, allowing users to set up how they want to interact with different accounts.

There Are Some Limitations, of Course

For such a new platform, Bluesky is an incredibly feature-rich platform, with all the features users would want and need. For professional social media people like me, tools like Buffer now support all features of the site, which is much appreciated.

Bluesky isn’t perfect, and there are a few limitations. Movies currently work great on the mobile app but aren’t supported with desktop web browsers. Support for animated GIFs is still spotty…although since soundless MP4 movies work great and are often 75% smaller in size than GIFs, this isn’t a problem. Embedding of Bluesky posts doesn’t yet work in WordPress, that I can see.

Is J-List Going to Leave Twitter/X?

Of course not! I will keep on engaging with anime fans on X and will keep posting and engaging with our followers on the J-List Twitter account. So you can choose to follow us there, on Bluesky, or on both platforms.
