Fair and Loyal Maidens to Celebrate on Good Queen Day

Good Couple Day (Ii Fuufu no Hi) falls on November 22nd this year, and National Princess Day takes place on November 18th. We’re going to combine these days to celebrate Good Queen Day. We’re going to highlight members of royalty in a functional relationship. This lets us celebrate the more mature noble waifus of anime.

1. Titania (The Ancient Magus’ Bride)

Titania is the Queen of the Fae and the wife of Oberon. She is a regal woman with little patience for foolishness, even from her husband. Titania has gone out of her way to aid Elias and Chise. These are acts of love, though her love can be rather possessive. Would any cultured otaku actually care if she became a bit possessive? She’s a goddess with a plunging neckline and deserves her due on Good Queen Day.

Kore Yamazaki released the original The Ancient Magus’ Bride manga series on November 30th, 2013. Mag Garden and Bushiroad Works have published 21 volumes in Monthly Comic Blade, Monthly Comic Garden, and Comic Growl. Wit Studio’s anime adaptation premiered on August 13th, 2016.

2. Misaki Masaki Jurai (Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki)

Misaki is one of the empresses of the planet Jurai. She shares this role with Funaho as both are married to Emperor Azusa. She shares an almost sisterly bond with Funaho. Misaki is a loving wife and an overprotective and doting mother to her daughters Ayeka and Sasami. As cute and fun as Misaki seems, she has another identity as the “Counter-Actor.” She stands to oppose the three Choushin goddesses. Tenchi, in his godlike form, calms her down with a kiss. She still deserves some love on Good Queen Day.

Hitoshi Okuda released the original Tenchi Muyo! manga series between December 16th, 1994, and June 9th, 2000. Fujimi Shobo has published all twelve volumes in Comic Dragon Junior. AIC’s anime adaptation premiered on September 25th, 1992.

3. Sephie Michaela Deviluke (To LOVE-Ru)

Sephie isn’t just a cute waifu with stellar assets. She’s also a good queen and loyal wife. She’s a fair and wise ruler of Planet Deviluke. Sephie is patient with her wayward husband whenever he ducks his duties as King and chases after other girls. She supports her daughters in their Harem Plan for sharing the human Rito Yuki among themselves and other girls.

Saki Hasemi and Kentaro Yabuki released the original To LOVE-Ru manga series between April 24th, 2006, and August 31st, 2009. Shueisha has published all eighteen volumes in Weekly Shonen Jump. Studio Xebec’s anime adaptation premiered on April 4th, 2008.

4. Usagi Tsukino “Sailor Moon” (Sailor Moon)

Technically, Usagi is the once and future Queen of Neo Tokyo. Her throne awaits within a utopian future she is currently fighting to protect. Her daughter Chibi-Usa hasn’t technically been born yet, but she arrived from the future to help her mother out. Usagi has proven herself a true leader and a good mother before she takes her throne and gives birth. So yes, she definitely deserves some cheers on Good Queen Day.

Naoko Takeuchi wrote and illustrated Sailor Moon from December 28th, 1991, to February 3rd, 1997. Kodansha published all eighteen volumes in Nakayoshi. Toei Animation’s anime adaptation first premiered on March 7th, 1992.

5. Erza Knightwalker (Fairy Tail)

Perhaps this version of Erza, after all, deserved a sport on the good waifu list. This formerly evil iteration of the mainline Erza has since become the King of Edoloas’s lover and has given birth to his daughter. Though she acts bashful and submissive around Mystogan in her cute maid outfit, she is, in many ways, the rightful Queen of Edolas. Queens can dress like maids if they want to. It’s happened before. Maid queens deserve love on Good Queen Day, too.

Hiro Mashima began writing and illustrating the original Fairy Tail manga series on August 2nd, 2006. Kodansha has since released 78 volumes across the different Fairy Tail manga series. A-1 Pictures’ anime adaptation premiered on October 12th, 2009.
