People never really learned not to trust people selling snake oil. A brilliant doctor has created a miracle cure-all drug that (seemingly) saved humanity. The age of peace and prosperity that followed lasted only three years. The doctor announced that his drug carried a death sentence for all who took it. The government has formed an elite team to find the doctor and discover a cure before it’s too late. We’ll see how this team fares when Lazarus premieres sometime in 2025.
Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop) is directing Lazarus for studio MAPPA. Chad Stahelski (John Wick) is directing the action sequences.
Three of our elite agents are as follows:
- Axel — Mamoru Miyano (Doma from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). A parkour specialist from Brazil. His frequent prison escapes have made him famous.
- Eleina — Manaka Iwami (Linie from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End). A hacker from Hong Kong. Her computer skills more than make up for her lack of communication skills.
- Christine — Maaya Uchida (Kaguya Yamai in Date A Live). An expert marksman and weapons specialist from Russia. She’s an optimist with a rough personality and a love of alcohol.

Death Follows a Miracle Cure in Lazarus
The famous neuroscientist Dr. Skinner introduced the wonder cure-all drug Hapuna in 2052. There wasn’t anything that Hapuna couldn’t cure, and it became an essential part of everyday life. So it was that an age of peace and prosperity followed. There was no pain or illness to worry about. However, Dr. Skinner vanished from public view while the globe sang his praises.
The doctor, in 2055, reappears three years later with a startling announcement. The seemingly perfect drug with zero side effects had a hidden property: those who took it would die in three years. The madman intended to purge the world of sin. The world now considers Dr. Skinner an enemy despite once hailing him as a saint for his generous donations to tackle various issues. Now, a task force known as “Lazarus” hunts down Dr. Skinner and tries to find a cure before the clock runs out.
