The great anime series where trains become city-destroying mechs has returned for its third season. Shinkalion Change the World has an older cast in more practical pilot/train driver suits this time. We’ll see how this new team of train pilots fares in battle against the Uknown when the series premieres sometime in April. We can enjoy the latest trailer until then. For those more interested in the robot trains, there is also a trailer for the Shinkalion.
Takara Tomy, in association with the Japan Railways Group, created the Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion (Transforming Bullet Train Robot Shinkalion) toy line.
Three of our lead train pilots are as follows:
- Taisei Onari — Hiiro Ishibashi (Yuga Oudou from Yu-Gi-Oh! Sevens). A boy inspired to become a Shinkansen pilot to protect others. He entered Shinkai Academy to find clues about his missing older sister.
- Akane Folden — Kensho Ono (Giorno Giovanna from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure). Akane was born to a French father and a Japanese mother. He comes from a family of skilled athletes.
- Ryota Kuzuryu — Shimba Tsuchiya (Kazuyuki Konno from In/Spectre). A fun-loving and easy-going pilot. He was saved by a Shinkalion as a child.

Production I.G Rides the Rails
Production I.G was founded on December 15th, 1987, by producers Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and Takayuki Goto. The “I.G” part of their studio name is taken from the first letters of their last names, Ishikawa and Goto. During a lecture on March 24th, 2006, Ishikawa gave another meaning to I.G, suggesting that it stood for itsumo (always) and genki (happy).
Production I.G’s first project was Zillion when the studio’s name was I.G Tatsunoko. The studio is probably most known for its work on Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. That series is most known for its powerful and brilliant waifu Motoko Kusanagi.
Shinkalion Change the World and Face the Unknown
Shinkalion Change the World is another action-packed mecha anime with giant transforming robots. The mysterious beings dubbed “Uknown” invaded the earth many years ago. The Evolution Railway Development Agency, or “ERDA,” was founded to counter these beings. ERDA developed the “Shinkalion,” giant robots that could transform to and from bullet trains to fight the Unknown.
It had been ten years since the previous Unknown appearance. Taisei Onari has dreams of becoming strong enough to protect others. To that end, he entered Shinkai Academy Junior High Division. His other goal was to uncover clues about his older sister’s disappearance. Taisei’s time at the academy will be anything but boring as he makes friends and fights in his own Shinkalion.
