It’s been a while since we last discussed the Rascal Does Not Dream (Seishun Buta Yaro) series. The tale of people dealing with nigh-supernatural incidents while going through puberty continues as they go to university. We currently have no release date to look forward to concerning the anime. However, those living in or visiting Japan should mark March 12th through March 24th, 2024, on their calendars for the Rascal Does Not Dream of School Memories — Aobuta Exhibition at the Event Square venue at the Matsuya Ginza department store in Tokyo. Additional exhibitions will be held later in Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya. In addition to celebrating the series’ fifth anniversary, there is much to look forward to. For now, let’s take a look at the brief trailer.
Hajime Kamoshida and Keji Mizoguchi first released their Rascal Does Not Dream light novel series on April 10th, 2014. ASCII Media Works has since published thirteen volumes in the Dengeki Bunko imprint.
Our rascal, a bunny girl, and an idol are as follows:
- Sakuta Azusagawa — Kaito Ishikawa (Karaku from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba). He is an older brother who works to aid the girls around him with their Adolescence Syndrome. His Syndrome caused three deep lacerations to appear across his chest.
- Mai Sakurajima — Asami Seto (Frill Shiranui from Oshi no Ko). A girl who dresses as a bunny girl with the hope that people acknowledge her existence. They start a relationship after Sakuta helps her through her Adolescence Syndrome.
- Uzuki Hirokawa — Sora Amamiya (Illustrious in Azur Lane). The lead singer of the idol group Sweet Bullet. Sakuta notices something unusual about her as they enter university.
CloverWorks has maintained a home page and a Twitter (X) page to promote Rascal Does Not Dream. You can find additional series information and Key Visuals there.
Rascal Does Not Dream Even in University
Despite the Rascal Does Not Dream title, our hero’s life is anything but a dream. Sakuta Azusagawa has been forced to endure the strange and horrific Adolescence Syndrome. His ailment caused three major scars to appear on his chest. These lacerations bleed whenever his emotions reach a fever pitch. His sister’s Syndrome causes emotional abuse, such as slurs and insults, to manifest as physical injuries. He then met a cute girl dressed in a bunny outfit in these unfortunate circumstances. Apparently, only he can see Mai Sakurajima. With her at his side, Sakuta begins to help those who suffer from Adolescence Syndrome.
Later on, as Sakuta and Mai leave high school and enter university, he encounters the famous idol Uzuki Hirokawa. Something about her seems off. Sakuta begins to wonder if she, too, suffers from the almost supernatural Adolescence Syndrome. He still has to contend with his personal ailment, but that won’t stop him from helping others.
