I know that there are some high-profile series premiering next month including Spy x Family, My Hero Academia Season Six, and Chainsaw Man, so some other shows are going to have to fight harder than usual in order to get noticed. That being said, the more I learn about the new idol series Eternal Boys, the more intrigued I become. They helped this feeling along with the brand new promotional video released ahead of its October 10th premiere.
As previously reported, this is an original series starring a group of men in Japan who are all around 40 years old that have been recruited to become the new idol sensation, Eternal Boys. While the first promotional video highlighted the physical challenges that the quite out-of-shape men would face as they attempted to break into the crowded idol industry, the second promotional video posted above lays out the mental challenges that the main characters will have to overcome as rival groups attempt to remind them that the idol industry thrives on youth.
Interestingly, it’s these same rival groups from within the anime’s universe that will perform the opening and closing theme songs for the series. As heard in the promotional video, the opening theme song is titled “Dreamy Life” and will be performed by the group known as Gentlemen. Meanwhile, the closing theme song, titled “FRIENDS” will be performed by the group called Story of Love.
The animation for Eternal Boys is being produced by studio LIDEN FILMS with migmi sitting in the director’s chair. They will work with Kimiko Ueno who is handling the scripts. Interestingly, somewhere along the line, the decision was made to produce two cours worth of half-length episodes (15 minutes each) rather than one cour of full-length episodes. This is not an entirely original idea (the first time I remember it being done was with Steel Angel Kurumi in the early 00s), but I wonder if it will pay off in the end.
As I mentioned in the introduction, I am quite intrigued by what I’ve seen of this series so far and will undoubtedly tune in once it premieres. As someone who is only a few weeks away from turning 40 years old, Eternal Boys is premiering at the perfect time. If done well, I could easily see this series as something to keep me inspired to continue working hard as I enter the next phase of my life.
