The new anime season is just a few weeks away, and it looks like it’s going to be another huge one, with dozens of shows you might want to consider. Here’s our newest anime guide featuring all the upcoming series J-List is most excited about in the Fall 2022 anime season!
J-List’s Fall 2022 Anime Guide! What Shows Are We Looking Forward To?
Chainsaw Man. The story of a man forced by the yakuza into killing devils, who dies and gets a chainsaw for a face. With a fresh story and amazing visuals by MAPPA, it should be one of the gems in the Fall 2022 season!
Part II of Spy x Family. I’m super happy to have a new season (or the second half of the first season, however they want to spin it) because I love Anya and Yor memes. As an anime retailer, I support splitting up groups of episodes like this to give more time for a show’s popularity to grow and figures to get released.
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out Season 2. I’m a card-carrying fan of this wholesome show about two university students slowly falling in love, so I’m happy to include it in this anime guide. Although the show got attached by busybodies on Twitter for having a short, busty female character, it’s one of the most delightful romance series to drop in a while.

Kantai Collection season 2. I love Kantai Collection, especially the movie, in which the shipwaifus realize they’re trapped in some neverending purgatory of death-and-rebirth. While I’m frustrated that Kadokawa would wait so long to bring us more KanColle — I mean, really guys? — I’ll certainly be watching the new season.
Urusei Yatsura 2022. If you’d told me I’d be typing the words “Urusei Yatsura is coming back,” I’d have thought you were bonkers. But it’s true: a new offering is coming in the Fall 2022 anime season, and even better, it’s being run in the venerable Noitamina (animation spelled backward) time slot by Fuji TV, which brought us other hits like AnoHana, Psycho-Pass and Erased in the past. Hype!
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. The long-awaited continuation of Bleach looks to be violent and awesome. It also reportedly won’t be on Crunchyroll as expected, but Disney+. The House of Mouse has already been casting itself as just another place to watch normal anime here in Asia, with its licensing of sexy Summer Time Rendering, and it seems past due time for them to start doing this in the rest of the world, too.
Golden Kamuy Season 4. I am a huge fan of Golden Kamuy and evangelize it every chance. It’s a fresh and bold adventure story about a former Japanese soldier named Sugimoto and his Ainu sidekick Asirpa, as they hunt for a trove of stolen gold in the frozen wastelands of Meiji Era northern Japan. It’s loaded with insane characters and off-color humor!
Why should you be watching Golden Kamuy? Here are five reasons!
Reincarnated as a Sword. One of the surprising things about the Fall 2022 anime season is how few “reincarnated in another world” shows there are. I plan to check out this series and see if it’s interesting!
Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman. You never know if a school rom-com will turn out to have an interesting story with characters we want to root for (like the surprisingly good Love and Lies) or will instead be just another generic mess. Fingers crossed that More than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers entertains us!
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. I’m a huge Gundam fan, though I don’t usually get into shows that aren’t set in the core Universal Century story. This new series is set in the same universe as the well-received Iron-Blooded Orphans, piques my interest. If genius writer Mari Okada is involved with this new show, I’ll be doubly on board!
Akiba Maid War. An anime by P.A. Works and Cygames, this could potentially be good. I’m always willing to add anything by the great P.A. Works studio to my anime guide blog post.
Do It Yourself. I’m sure this show about girls learning to make things will go nowhere, but since I love DIY projects and anime with completely fresh ideas, I’ll give it a try!
To Your Eternity season 2. Everyone loves it when an anime they watched gets a new season, right? Well, sometimes. While I thought the original Fumetsu no Anata e was brilliant, it seemed to tell whatever story it had to tell…then just keep going, like the Energizer Bunny. I’m not entirely convinced the new series will have a compelling story for fans to enjoy.
Even More Continuations. As I’ve written before, we’re really living in a Golden Age of anime today, where studios are getting more money thrown at them by streaming companies than ever before. But do we really need new seasons of Peter Grill, a super ecchi show that somehow managed to not hold even my interest? Or Idolish 7, a BL anime based on a mobile game? Or Yama no Susume, the original “cute girls get a new hobby” show? I don’t see these series having vibrant fandoms that need servicing.
Boku wa Sex Friend ga Dekita Riyuu. Finally, let’s add something sexy to the Fall 2022 anime guide. I’m a fan of the “hentai that can be shown on TV” model in which a series is made with two versions: one with the sexy bits cut out for broadcast, and another version for the Blu-ray, followed by Overflow, Joshiochi! and others. This allows a show with a decent story to be seen by many people, and lets fans enjoy the full story, steamy sex and all, later.
