Alright, I know that not everyone is on board or convinced that Netflix is going to do a good job with their live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. That’s totally fair, Netflix has burned us all in the past. That’s not going to stop them from trying to convince you to tune in to their service on November 19th and I have to say that if I wasn’t convinced before, this new promotional video could very well have pushed me over the edge.
In the two-and-a-half-minute promotional video, we get to see Spike (John Cho), Jet Black (Mustafa Shakir), and Faye Valentine (Daniella Pineda) team up to capture a bounty (though not before stopping for some noodles). As usual with this ragtag team, however, things get ugly and violence ensues.
I really enjoyed the presentation of this video. The action was well plotted and the clever use of visuals made it a very entertaining watch even for those who have no interest in watching the actual series once it premieres on Netflix. The series itself is set to run for ten episodes starting November 19th.
I know that I’ve said this before but this one just feels right. While fans can complain all they want about the casting and costume changes (really?), the promotional materials released so far make me feel like Netflix may have finally captured the original spirit of the source material with this adaptation. While the content of the series is still yet to be seen, knowing that studio Sunrise and the original director is consulting on the project always gives me a sigh of relief.
No matter what anyone says, until I’m shown otherwise on November 19th, I believe this series has the potential to be great and I hope that for once in my professional career, I’m proven right.
