Well, here’s another series that will be worth watching just for the soundtrack.
First announced almost a year ago, we finally have all the details regarding the upcoming co-production between Adult Swim and Crunchyroll titled Fena: Pirate Princess. At first, all we knew for certain was that Production I.G would produce the animation with Kazuto Nakazawa serving as the director. Other than that, details were scarce until Wednesday, June 16th, when the crew released all the details and a brand new promotional video to boot!
Fena: Pirate Princess is an original story starring a twelve-year-old heroine named Fena. Taking place in an alternate version of the 18th century, Fena is an orphan who has been raised on an island by kidnappers who are grooming her to be used as a toy by British soldiers. Luckily for Fena, she is eventually able to escape her captivity and begins a search for a place where she can be herself and live her own life while also discovering the secrets of her mysterious past.
The crew for this series is stacked to the rafters with talent. Directed by Kazuto Nakazawa and with animation produced by Production I.G., the screenplay is being written by Asako Kuboyama, and Yuki Kajiura is composing the background music. The series is set to premiere dubbed on Adult Swim and subbed on Crunchyroll this summer. It will premiere in Japan in October.
As for the voice cast, the English dub members have not been revealed but the Japanese cast reads as follows (character names first):
Fena Houtman: Asami Seto
Yukimaru: Ryota Suzuki
Shitan: Takahiro Sakurai
Karin: Aoi Yuki
Enju: Gen Sato
Kaede: Ryota Ohsaka
Tsubaki: Jun Oosuka
Makaba: Shintaro Tanaka
Salman: Manabu Muraji
Otto: Hiroaki Hirata
As with another series set to premiere this summer, Case Study of Vanitas, I am more than ready to sail the high seas with this series simply because I want to listen to the soundtrack. Yuki Kajiura has proven time and again that she’s more than capable of taking on new challenges and I believe that she will produce a soundtrack worthy of this series’ grandeur.
