Peach Boy Riverside Anime Reveals Premiere Date

I’ll admit it, before today I had never heard of the series Peach Boy Riverside, but now that I know it was created by the same author who did Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid and I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying, it’s become this summer’s “must-see” series! In an announcement that went live on Wednesday, May 19th, we learned additional details regarding the upcoming anime adaptation, including the premiere date and theme song details.

Set to premiere on July 1st, Peach Boy Riverside is based on a manga written by Coolkyousinnjya and illustrated by Johanne. It’s been serialized in Shonen Magazine R and the manga site Magazine Pocket since August 2015. Thus far it has been collected into nine volumes in Japan as of January 2021, while Kodansha USA has plans to release the first two volumes in English this summer.

The anime adaptation will have animation produced by Asahi Production and feature Shigeru Ueda as the director. Keiichiro Ochi is composing the series composition, while character designs are being provided by Satomi Kurita and Masato Kato. The opening theme song, titled “Dark Spiral Journey”, will be performed by Q-MHz featuring Yuko Suzuhana, and the ending theme song, titled “Yoru o Koeru Ashioto”, will be performed by Mitei no Hanashi.

Based on the promotional video posted above, this seems like it’s going to be a wacky take on the Momotaro story. While I’m not the biggest fan of this particular cliche, I am intrigued by the idea of seeing whatever spin author Coolkyousinnjya decides to put on it. After watching (and highly enjoying) both I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying and Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid, I feel confident that I’m going to enjoy this series as well.
