Run With the Wind Gets Official English Dub by Sentai Filmworks

There’s something special about sports anime. No matter what competitive activity the characters are engaged in, seeing the fiery passion of committed athletes play out in an anime is always an unforgettable experience. A lot of major competitive sports like volleyball, baseball, and football have been the focus of plenty of iconic anime series. The less contact-heavy but still absolutely grueling sport of competitive running, though, hasn’t had very much exposure in the anime world. Run With the End came along to change that back in 2018, delivering a gripping and gorgeously animated adaptation of Shion Miura’s Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Feel the Wind) novel. Now, the show is coming back with a promising English dub by way of Sentai Filmworks.

Announced on the Sentai Filmworks website, the English dub of Run With the Wind will be available on their upcoming physical Blu-ray release of the series, which is expected to ship on May 26th. Fans can pre-order a standard edition of the Blu-ray release that comes on three discs, or string for a bit extra in the Premium Box Set version. This upgraded release comes with a lenticular bookmark, a 24-page mini art-book, and a gorgeous collector’s box to house all of the items in. While the standard release comes out on May 26th, the Premium Box Set won’t be available until June 30th.

As for the dub itself, audio engineers David Lascoe, Anel Garcia, Ricardo Contreras, and Jonathan Rodriguez are responsible for bringing the English audio of Run With the Wind to life, along with the following massive cast of English voice actors:

  • Blake Jackson as Haiji
  • Gabriel Regojo as Kakeru
  • Nathan Wilson as Joji
  • Scott Gibbs as Jota
  • Andrew Love as King
  • Jovan Jackson as Musa
  • Ty Mahany as Nico
  • Mike Haimoto as Prince
  • Daniel Regojo as Shindo
  • Benjamin McLaughlin as Yuki
  • James Belcher as Tazaki
  • Alyssa Marek as Hanako
  • Jay Hickman as Hanako’s Dad
  • Tyler Galindo as Sakaki
  • Josh Morrison as Fujioka
  • Chris Hutchison as Mochizuki
  • Rob Mungle as HS Coach
  • Kelly Greenshield as Musa’s Boss
  • Matt Shipman as Hirakawa
  • Orlanders Jones as Iwanki
  • Brittany Lauda as Haiji’s Mother
  • John Swasey as Haiji’s Father

Run With The Wind Anime Poster

The original 23-episode broadcast of Run With the Wind premiered back in October of 2018, with Crunchyroll and HIDIVE streaming the series globally on a weekly schedule, as it aired in Japan. HIDIVE describes the show as follows:

Kakeru is a former elite runner in high school who finds himself down on his luck. After being chased for stealing food, he’s saved by Haiji, a Kansei University student and a fellow runner. Having nowhere else to go, Kakeru is convinced by Haiji to move into a dormitory with eight other strangers. Before Kakeru is even settled in his new home, Haiji announces his ambitious plans to enter all ten of them into one of the most prominent university relay marathons in Japan, the Hakone Ekiden. There’s just one small problem: with the exception of Haiji and Kakeru, none of the residents have ever run competitively before.

Run With the Wind was animated at legendary animation studio Production I.G. with Kazuya Nomura responsible for directing it. Nomura previously worked on Robotics;Notes, Joker Game, and Ghost in the Shell: The New Movie. Kohei Kiyasu, a prolific voice actor and scriptwriter, wrote and oversaw the series scripts. Takahiro Chiba, who was previously character designer on Occult Academy and chief animation director on Haikyu!!, designed the characters for the series. Hideki Takashi and Takashi Mukuoda were key animators on the show. Takashi previously worked on Haikyu!! and Neon Genesis Evangelion, while Mukuoda previously worked on Gurren Lagann and Space Dandy. Hiromi Kikuta of Haikyu!! and Mr. Osomatsu fame was the sound director on the series alongside DIVE!! and My Hero Academia composer Yuki Hayashi.
