Dogs. Whether they’re performing important tasks such as herding, hunting, or guarding, or just being a loveable companion, it’s widely agreed that dogs are an integral part of people’s everyday lives. Capitalizing on people’s love of dogs has expanded into lucrative avenues for most, from designer brands offering pricy pet accessories to pet psychics, who will delve into the inner workings of your pet’s psyche and let you know what your pet is really thinking. While pet psychics haven’t gotten around to claiming your pets are reincarnations of legendary figures the way regular psychics do, I wonder what would happen if your pet managed to be a reincarnation of legendary warlord Oda Nobunaga?! Well, wonder no more as the anime Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga asks that all-important question.
Based on the manga of the same name created by Uno Megurogawa, Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga follows the daily life of a modern-day Japanese Shiba-Inu named Cinnamon. Unbeknownst to Cinnamon’s owner and other humans, Cinnamon is actually the reincarnation of our aforementioned legendary warlord. Not to be outdone, however, the other legendary warlords have also been reborn as dogs. Interestingly enough, the other warlords have been reincarnated as dogs of every shape and size, with Date Masamune, now “Boo,” existing as a French Bulldog, and Uesugi Kenshin, now “Julian,” living as a Borzoi. There’s nothing funnier than listening to a middle-aged man’s voice come out of a little dog. Check out the teaser trailer below for more hilarity.
With production headed by studio Pierrot and director Hidetoshi Takahashi, the series looks like a fun comedy-of-errors as Nobunaga works through both his reincarnation and his feuds with the other lords, though it looks like Nobunaga’s quest for control of Japan will have to be settled after we figure out who’s a good dog. The series is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, with episodes simulcast every Friday at 2:00 pm EST.
