Happy 30th birthday to Japanese voice actress Aoi Yuuki! Over her incredibly long career, Aoi-chan has voiced some of the most iconic characters in anime, winning her the love of fans around the world. Let’s learn more about her career, and browse her best voice rolls, based on hundreds of thousands of votes on MAL.
Aoi Yuuki’s Long Career as a Voice Actor
When Aoi Yuuki was young, she often performed Sailor Moon transformation scenes in front of a mirror, and her parents got the idea to take her to an audition for a TV commercial. She got scouted by a talent agency and began appearing in TV roles from the age of four. She began voice work in junior high school, winning an audition for a role in 2003’s Kino’s Journey, and decided she loved voice acting.
Her breakout role came with 2011’s Madoka Magica, which won her several Best Voice Actress awards, despite being just 19 years old at the time. Nothing could stop her from taking her place as one of Japan’s foremost seiyu after that, and she has had a huge number of amazing roles over the following 12 years.
Outside of her voice acting work, Aoi is a fan of Transformers, especially Bumblebee, and she loves dressing in Gothic Lolita clothes. She also loves drawing fanart of the characters she plays. She’s declared her “waifu” to be Kyoko from Madoka Magica.
What Are Aoi Yuuki’s Top Voice Roles According to MAL?
Let’s look at the top 12 voice acting roles of Aoi Yuuki, sorted by the number of “favorites” on the MAL website.
Akiho Kousaka from My Girlfriend is a Virgin Bitch. Although this is no one’s favorite Aoi Yuuki voice role, I enjoyed this show because of the uniqueness she brings to the show. Okay, I’ll be honest: I just like hearing Aoi Yuuki talk dirty.
Juubei Yagyuu from Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls. Another quality ecchi anime that really has some amazing voice work in it, by Aoi as well as the Queen of Tsundere Rie Kugimiya.

Yoshiko Hanabatake from Aho Girl. Loaded with hilarious scenes, Aoi Yuuki’s work in this show made the whole thing enjoyable.
Azusa from Slime Taoshite 300-nen. There’s nothing like relaxing with a fun slice-of-life anime, and fans really enjoyed Slime 300.

Komachi Hikigaya from Yahari Ore no Seishun no Love Comedy wa Machigattiru. Another of her standout roles is the sharp-witted little sister of Hachiman.
Tamaki Koatsu from Fire Force. The only thing better than seeing Tamaki’s endless “lucky sukebe” moments is hearing Aoi Yuuki’s voice coming out of her mouth.
Kumoko from Kumo Desu Ga, Nanika? This was a really enjoyable anime, following the adventures of poor Kumoko, who got reincarnated in a fantasy world as a lowly spider. The way Kumoko managed to overcome each obstacle and level up was super enjoyable to watch.
Tsuyu Asui from My Hero Academia. Another character fans love, her presence alone is reason enough to watch the subtitled version of this anime over the English dub.
Lucy from Cyberpunk Edgerunners. The outstanding anime by Trigger made gamers fall in love with the world of Cyberpunk 2077 all over again, and Lucy was an amazing character.

Madoka Kaname from Madoka Magica. Aoi Yuuki’s voice work helped make this “post-modern” magical girl anime extra-special. I especially loved how the main character refused to become a magical girl until the very end, subverting every other anime in this genre that came before.
Mami Nanami from Rent-a-Girlfriend. Although she’s the girlfriend fans love to hate, I think Mami is the most interesting and complex character in the series. And of course, Aoi’s outstanding voice work is another reason to enjoy any scene she’s in.
Tanya Degurechaff from Saga of Tanya the Evil. Finally, her most popular role, with 12,000+ votes by MAL fans, is Tanya from Youjo Senki. Hearing Aoi’s evil laugh while taking out her enemies with a machine gun made every episode that much better!
