Well, our time at Anime Weekend Atlanta is done, and we’re sorry to see it end. We had a blast, shaking hands with lots of customers and seeing more Touhou cosplayers (and crossplayers) than we’ve ever seen before, thanks to the appearance of Touhou creator ZUN at the show. Like Otakon, the popular anime convention held in Baltimore, the energy of AWA was a bit different from the atmosphere of conventions on the West Coast, with an extra level of passion applied by the fans, perhaps because they’re farther from the source, Japan. Anyway, thanks to everyone who came by to say hi!
We’ve had fun so far in Atlanta, sampling various local treats like Cajun Gumbo Ya Ya and a Catfish Po Boy as well as a restaurant called Steak and Shake, which readers on my Twitter feed and Facebook page recommended. Naturally visiting a new part of the U.S. will bring a bit of culture shock. For example, my Japanese employee and I have had the darnedest time finding any Koreans or Japanese, at least in the part of Atlanta we’ve been in so far. While we were walking around the convention, I heard someone point to Yasu and whisper, “Look, there goes a real Japanese person.” Now that the convention is done, Yasu and I will be taking a few days to explore this corner of the USA and then head back to Japan.
We enjoyed many laughs and cosplays at AWA.
