Cosplayers are often incredibly beautiful, especially the most dedicated of professionals. It’s hard not to fantasize about these costume-clad cuties, imagining seeing them engage in some naughty action in their anime-accurate outfits or even being intimate with them yourself. Hentai artist Thomas brings those fantasies to life with a number of incredible cosplay-focused stories that are part of his impressive FAKKU book release Makeup For You.
While most of the book is drawn in black and white, the two opening chapters feature some full-color material to complement the erotic action. One of these stories, Ditzy Star Hikawa-san, is all about a clumsy girl, a struggling drama club president, and their special way of practicing acting. When Hikawa-san stumbles into the drama club absentmindedly, she barely takes five steps before falling over and ripping half her uniform. The club president instantly sees the potential in her to portray a gorgeous tragic heroine, and decides to recruit her into the club. In order to help her get over her stage fright and conquer her shyness, he has her don the skimpiest and most revealing costume possible. On top of that, he blindfolds her so that they can practice a beginner-friendly play called “The Blind Fairy.” As they progress through the play, though, more and more wardrobe malfunctions cause the two of them to improvise a much more adult version of the story together.
I had fun reading through this section of Makeup For You for a few reasons, but I most enjoyed the somewhat accidental way all of the circumstances of the story lead to the two having sex. Hikawa is shy and innocent, yet all of her screw-ups cause her to give off an alluring feminine aura that the drama club president just can’t ignore. Even then, though, he truly just wants to make her an incredible actress and doesn’t initially have any naughty thoughts in mind. It isn’t until things get taken way too far that the two finally embrace the sexual side of their dynamic, leading to an incredibly fun and raunchy chapter.
The chapter was also elevated thanks to the four full-color chapters at the beginning of the book. Thomas has a really unique art style where anatomy is long and exaggerated, yet certain parts still maintain a puffiness or squishiness that makes everything melt together as his characters embrace. It can sometimes be a little hard to keep track of the action in black and white pages, so these colored sections helped my eyes focus on each scene properly. In terms of attention to detail, though, these full-color sections were a little lacking. Compared to the bright and vibrant cover illustrations of Makeup For You, the colors used in Ditzy Star Hikawa-san were a little flat and washed out. On top of that, the shading and lighting on each character are rendered in a chunky, sometimes unsmoothed manner that was a little disappointing.
Thankfully, these fumbled color sections don’t bring down the otherwise incredible artwork of Thomas. Like I mentioned earlier, his art features exaggerated bodies and faces that sacrifice realistic proportions and positions for incredibly erotic scenes and poses. Blowjobs are rendered with especially exquisite detail in Makeup For You, with outstretched tongues and realistic liquid renderings that kept my eyes glued to the page. There’s wonderful attention to detail when it comes to drawing the sexual anatomy of these characters, making the uncensoring work by FAKKU a blessing that adds major points to this book. Things never felt repetitive either, thanks to the impressive variety in character design and personality that kept each girl in every chapter feeling fresh and unique.
The next chapter in Makeup For You is a surprisingly similar story involving seemingly innocent characters engaging in intense sexual roleplay, but the differences helped make it one of my favorite parts of the book. In Magic Interpretation, a young man is seeing off his girlfriend Yuuri after a romantic night out together. They only kiss each other, but the two secretly wish that the night could continue with them going to his place for more than just a kiss. As the protagonist gloomily walks away, he accidentally drops his keys that are adorned with a keychain from his favorite magical girl anime. He’s terrified of Yuuri finding out that he’s into otaku stuff like that and is ready for the worst, but to his surprise, she recognizes the keychain and also ends up being a huge fan of the series. The two go back to his place to drink, gush about the anime, and check out his massive merch collection. He eventually busts out a replica costume of their favorite character for some reason, but Yuuri doesn’t hesitate to ask if she can put it on. When she comes out dressed like magical girl Yuli and the two drunkenly act out their favorite scene from the show, Yuuri takes things a step further by adding a sexual twist to the iconic anime moment that leads to a night of intense roleplaying action.
Having two chapters in a row that involve shy characters falling into a costumed roleplay scenario that develops into intense sex is kind of weird, but I ended up loving this one so much more thanks to the relationship of the characters here. Not only are the two a loving couple, but they both express slight interest in lewd fun at the beginning of the story, helping the way things develop to make a lot more sense. Furthermore, the art in this chapter is just downright jaw-dropping. The soft and supple shape of Yuuri’s tongue and the way her cheeks puff and bulge as she sucks off her otaku boyfriend is just downright addicting. That sharp combo between enjoyable story and incredible artwork is what makes this one of the best chapters in Makeup For You.
Makeup For You is a little rough around the edges. While there are a handful of colored pages, they’re lacking in quality and vibrancy compared to the work of other Fakku affiliated authors. Still, the lack of strong coloring or book extras is more than made up for by the incredibly sexy and jaw-dropping artwork of Thomas. Each page is a pleasure to lay your eyes on, and if you’re a fan of roleplaying and costume-play, the pleasure is only amplified.
