The Do You Like Horny Bunnies? (Ecchi na Bani-san wa Kirai?, You don’t hate Sexy Bunnies, Right?) Complete Collection is a remaster of two already perfect visual novels released in 2001 and 2002. Updated graphics and audio serve to make great eroge all the better. ZyX has a great track record with their remasters, as we’ve discussed before, and this time is no different. They did an excellent job with Amorous Professor Cherry Remastered, after all.
You’ve Found the Perfect Job
Both Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 1 and 2 follow the same basic premise: a guy looking for work stumbles upon the best place imaginable. Platinum is an Italian-style restaurant where all the waitresses are bunny girls.
Volume 1
The first visual novel follows Yukari Fujisawa, a feminine-looking guy and a senior at Kinozaka High School. His family moved away for work, and he decided to stay behind to continue at his same school and later attend a specific college. Due to his feminine appearance, he’s constantly been friend zoned by girls and has even drawn other men’s eyes. He’s straight, so he’s none too happy with his current circumstances.
Yukari regularly receives money from his family for his expenses, but his exotic fish’s food alone isn’t exactly cheap. So he applies for a job at Platinum, a restaurant he has never heard of. It takes him a bit, but he finds the place and is mistaken for a girl by the male manager. His interview with the owner, Akina Inamura, who knows he’s a guy, goes extremely well. She learns first-hand that his package down below is far more impressive than his feminine appearance might suggest. So he has sex with the owner and gets the job all in one day. It was his first time, and he made a successful first impression on his new boss. And two of his female coworkers, Sae and Hiromi, walk in on them just as they finish. Thus begins Yukari’s new job as a waiter at the best place to work.
Volume 2
The second visual novel in the collection follows Kazuma Takatsuki, a Japanese guy who traveled around Europe and became a sommelier, first in France and currently in Italy. In an Italian ristorante, Kazuma runs into his ex-girlfriend from several years back named Sumika Ichikawa. She’s married now but readily seduces Kazuma and has him take her back to her room for some infidelity. After that job is done, she offers him another, to become a sommelier at a new ristorante in Japan, Platinum: Oceanside.
As the name implies, his new location is related to the Platinum from the first novel, and characters from that one will cameo in the current visual novel. Sumika lures Kazuma back to Japan, head-hunting him from his current job with competitive pay, and offers to have sex with her whenever he wishes. He accepts, of course, and returns to Japan. Just a few months into the job, Sumika makes it clear the bunny girl waitresses all have feelings for him and suggests that he simply “eat them all” and that she’s okay with him dating other people. Though she does ask him if he would want to date her, despite her marriage. He’s a bit more tactful than that, but he considers the possibilities as he works his job.
Bunny Girl Art from a Master Artist
The art is absolutely fantastic and, as ever, has that nostalgic feel. Yamane Masahiro is the artist, so it makes sense his work is top tier as always. The art has been updated in HD from its original 2000s look and has been well done.
The girls in both games look lovely as ever. I like that they strike the same pose, clothed and naked, during conversations like it doesn’t matter that they’re naked and have just finished. There is business to discuss. Despite most of the girls being bunny girls, except Sumika and Akina, who dress in suits, they all stand out on their own, so it’s easy to pick favorites.
The sex scenes occur early in the novels, and the setup and payoff are enjoyable. Volume 1 has animated sex scenes that play on loops for that extra bunny hopping. Volume 1 also has a cute 16-bit bunny girl sitting atop the text box.
You Can Hear These Bunny Girls Bounce
Do You Like Horny Bunnies? is fully voiced, with sound effects and background music. The audio has likewise been upgraded to HD, so things will sound much better than in the ’00s version. Of course, for those who prefer the vintage track, there’s an option to switch back to that. Nostalgia is welcome here.
The voice cast is perfect. The male and female characters sound just as one would expect. Changes in emotion are evident in the tone of voice players will hear when progressing through the story. When the girls get flirty, there’s a sense of what is to come, making the audio work all the more important.
The music is pretty good as well. It’s not elevator music in the slightest. The different songs fit the various settings nicely.
Choices & Decisions
All the standard gameplay from other visual novels is here. Click or hit Enter to proceed through the text. Hitting Escape, or moving the cursor to the top of the screen, brings up the menu options. This can be toggled to keep the menu available at all times. Hitting the H key will make dialogue boxes disappear for those times there is something extra interesting on the screen.
The main gameplay elements are the multiple options. In the first sex scene of Volume 1, Yukari has the choice of whether or not to have sex with his new boss. There’s “Yes,” “No,” and “Jump on her.” That’s not verbatim, but that’s essentially it. There are choices to be made, so make sure you have alternate saves moving forward.
Conclusion
Do You Like Horny Bunnies? is a self-explanatory title since both visual novels are about horny bunny girls who throw themselves at lucky guys. There’s romance, but there’s an actual plot involved, even if both titles jump right to the sex from the first couple of minutes. The plot (not just the bunny girls’ PLOT) is actually good. It’s not something to skip over between sex scenes. The characters are fleshed out (and not just what’s beneath the bunny girls’ suits). You come to pick favorites, either the cool beauty who seems like she hates men or the boss who jumped your bones within minutes of meeting you.
It’s also fun to see characters from Volume 1 also appear in Volume 2, which makes it seem like one shared world. The story behind Platinum, that it was set up during the US occupation during World War II as an exclusive club for high-ranking officers and just kept at it when the US left, was definitely more world-building than I expected. That it’s still exclusively a place that only caters to regulars, and “new customers” are only a thing when management decides upon it, is interesting to think about.
Finally, ZyX has proven again that they know how to remaster classic eroge titles. They kept the nostalgic feeling while adding modern quality-of-life updates.
