Sad news for fans of the hit ice skating series, Yuri!!! On Ice.
In a very short notice posted on their official website, it was revealed that the movie Yuri!!! On Ice: Ice Adolescence will be delayed from its scheduled 2019 release until an unspecified date. In the announcement, the production committee noted that the reason for the delay is “in order to substantially scale up the content more than originally planned.” The notice goes on to say that “The entire staff will strive to bring a fully mature film to fruition.” Stay tuned to J-List for more information regarding the new release date as soon as it’s announced.
Yuri!!! On Ice is an original anime that was released as a twelve-episode series in October, 2016. The series uses ice skating as its central theme to tell a story about friendship and refinding one’s self-confidence. After a successful television run, the follow-up movie was announced in April, 2017. Written and directed by Sayo Yamamoto, the series features animation from famed studio MAPPA (Kids on the Slope, Kakegurui, Zombie Land Saga). Both the animation studio and original director will be returning to the movie.

Yuri Katsuki carried the hope of all Japan on his shoulders in the Figure Skating Grand Prix, but suffered a crushing defeat in the finals. He returned to his hometown in Kyushu and hid away in his family’s home, half wanting to continue skating and half wanting to retire. That was when the five-time consecutive world champion, Viktor Nikiforov, suddenly showed up with his teammate, Yuri Plisetsky, a young skater starting to surpass his seniors. And so the two Yuris and the Russian champion Viktor set out to compete in a Grand Prix like none the world has ever seen!
