The King of Games has returned to take his throne! The Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection brings fourteen classic games to the Nintendo Switch and Steam. Many of these games have never come to the West, so this is a special treat. If the trailer has any indication, those games might not have received a translation. A good duelist can use the Heart of the Cards to figure that out. Their next challenge arrives on February 27th, 2025.
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection spans Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games released between 1998 and 2004. You can find further information on Konami’s promotional homepage and Twitter (X) page.

Retro gaming fans should be positively excited about this collection. Though the Game Boy consoles have faded like the PSP, gamers from all generations still cherish the games they once played. I played a ton of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories back in the day. I don’t know if I still have the free cards from the box, but I remember the old strategies. Jinzo #7 can summon a fusion monster by taking half of the player’s Life Points, so just put out Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon. Hayabusa Knight can attack twice in one turn, and monsters with high attack power cannot destroy the Obnoxious Celtic Guard.
It’s Time to Duel!
Yu-Gi-Oh! fans can enjoy the same gift the Mega Man fans received with their Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection: a massive retro game collection on modern consoles for a comparatively generous price.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection has more than a few tricks in store for duelists. Certain games have online connectivity, special menus to alter how you can play the games, and even options to fast forward, rewind, or reset the duels. A digital gallery holds original box art and manuals for more curious and artistic duelists.
Duelists are already begging for a Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection 2, so they can play other classic games like Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Duelists of the Roses, Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum, and The Tag Force series. We can only hope such a collection comes out and these games can get a second shot in the arena. Until then, we can play retro Game Boy games like the good old days.
