You know the phrase “what’s old is new again?” Yeah, we think that applies here.
In a press release sent out late in the evening of Friday, May 8th, Viz Media confirmed that not only is InuYasha getting a brand new series later this year but they will be the ones to bring it to audiences in North and Latin America by claiming the digital streaming, EST, and home video rights!
The new series is titled Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. Trust us when we say that if you were ever a fan of the franchise, you will be pleased with what we have to say about this. In the press release, it was revealed that, for the most part, the band is getting back together for this sequel. While director Teruo Sato is almost new to the crew, pretty much everyone else in the primary crew is returning from the original television series, including the screenplay writer Katsuyuki Sumisawa, Yoshihito Hishinuma handling animation character designs (working off original designs created by legendary manga creator Rumiko Takahashi), Kaoru Wada composing the background music, and famed studio SUNRISE producing the animation.
Viz Media describes the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon story as:
Set in feudal Japan, half-demon twins Towa and Setsuna are separated from each other during a forest fire. While desperately searching for her younger sister, Towa wanders into a mysterious tunnel that sends her into present-day Japan, where she is found and raised by Kagome Higurashi’s brother, Sota, and his family.
Ten years later, the tunnel that connects the two eras has reopened, allowing Towa to be reunited with Setsuna, who is now a demon slayer working for Kohaku. But to Towa’s shock, Setsuna appears to have lost all memories of her older sister. Joined by Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome, the three young women travel between the two eras on an adventure to regain their missing past.
The series is scheduled to premiere during the fall 2020 anime season.
