Whoever Steals This Book Must Live the Adventure

Mifuyu descends from a long line of book lovers. Her grandfather was a beloved critic and book collector. He gathered numerous rare and informative tomes for all to read. As time went on, theft became a problem, so his daughter shut the library to the public. Thieves and book lovers couldn’t ignore the library, and the newest theft resulted in extreme magical measures. We’ll see how this case is resolved when Whoever Steals This Book (Kono Hon o Nusumu Mono wa) premieres sometime in 2026.

Nowaki Fukamidori released the original Whoever Steals This Book novel on October 8th, 2020. Kadokawa Shoten published the novel in the Kadokawa Bunko imprint.

Mifuyu Mikura. The heir to a large book collection.
Mashiro. A mysterious dog girl who guides Mifuyu to find the stolen books.

Whoever Steals This Book Will Face Magical Consequences

Kaichi Mikura was a beloved book critic and collector. He built his legendary collection in the temple village of Yomunaga. His daughter Tamaki inherited his collection after he passed away and continued to add to it. The collection, built in a massive building, was revered as Mikura Hall. It was open to the public for all to enjoy. This practice ended after a series of thefts. An outraged Tamaki shut everyone away. However, Yomunaga had already become a town of books thanks to her and her father.

Mifuyu Mikura did not inherit her great-grandfather’s or her grandmother’s love of books. In fact, Mikura Hall terrifies her. It’s a spooky place with a legend about a fox god who punishes thieves. Her hospital-bound father asks her to check in on her aunt Hiruna, a book fanatic who ignores her own health in favor of reading. Mifuyu discovers that some books were stolen and meets a strange, dog-eared girl. Mashiro encourages her to read a certain book to learn just what magical calamity has befallen her town, thanks to the theft. She must capture the thief to end the curse and save everyone.
