The official website and twitter for Makoto Yukimura’s Vinland Saga revealed that it will be receiving an anime adaptation by Wit Studio. The anime series is scheduled to air on television and streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and overseas in 2019.
The staff consists of:
- Director: Shuhei Yabuta (Inuyashiki Last Hero director, Attack on Titan 3D director)
- Scripts and writing: Hiroshi Seko (Banana Fish, Ajin – Demi-Human), and Kenta Ihara (Saga of Tanya the Evil).
- Character design: Takahiko Abiru (Hunter x Hunter animation director)
- Studio: Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, The Ancient Magus’ Bride)

Makoto Yukimura also did an illustration to celebrate the upcoming TV anime.
Vinland Saga was launched in Kodansha‘s Weekly Shounen Magazine in 2005, but was moved by Kodansha to Afternoon later that year. Kodansha published the manga’s 20th compiled book volume in November of 2017. The series has more than 5 million copies in print and received the Best General Manga award in Kondansha’s 36th Annual Manga awards in 2012. The series also won the Grand Prize in the manga division in the Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009.
Vinland Saga synopsis:
Thorfinn is son to one of the Vikings’ greatest warriors, but when his father is killed in battle by the mercenary leader Askeladd, he swears to have his revenge. Thorfinn joins Askeladd’s band in order to challenge him to a duel, and ends up caught in the middle of a war for the crown of England.
