One series from the summer 2022 season that has had people talking favorably for the last few weeks is Uncle From Another World, which premiered on Netflix on July 6th. Even our own big boss man wrote a positive piece about this series at the beginning of August. Unfortunately, bad news has come out of the home base for the series as the official website has announced that the rest of the series (from episode 8 onward) is now on an indefinite hiatus.
The reason for the hiatus is reportedly because of an increase of COVID infections at studio Atelier Pontdarc and other studios involved in the production process. The announcement went on to state that for the month of September, episodes three through six will be replayed instead (in Japan at least). Finally, it was revealed that the staff will provide a further update when the series is ready to resume. You might recall this already happening once before when episode five of Uncle From Another World was delayed two weeks for a similar reason.
It’s always disappointing when a popular anime has its momentum taken away by powers beyond its control. While many of us can name other examples of series falling apart halfway through due to production issues, this delay in new episodes is even more heartbreaking since the staff didn’t really do anything wrong and just got hit with a case of bad luck.
Here’s the important thing to keep in mind though: Yes, it really sucks when a series that people are enjoying gets hit with this kind of bad luck, but getting mad at the production staff accomplishes nothing. Let’s all just hope that anyone affected by this can heal back up to 100% and eventually get back to finishing this series when they are ready and able.
