We’ve been excitedly covering the news of Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You since it was announced, just a few months ago. Based on the Kenjiro Hata manga Fly Me to the Moon (Tonikaku Kawaii), this adorable romantic comedy is about a pair of energetic newlywed 18-year-olds making the most of their sudden newlywed lifestyle. The anime adaptation was announced back in March, and about a month ago it was confirmed that the series would be airing sometime in October. Now, it’s been confirmed that the romantic comedy will be hitting Japanese airwaves and global streaming on October 2nd.
News of the specific broadcast date for the series was shared alongside the brand new poster image above. While the anime shares the same name as the original manga in Japan, the English version of the series being streamed by Crunchyroll will go by Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You. The English version is likely to premiere shortly after the show debuts on the Tokyo MX channel on October 3rd, at 1 a.m., with the series also airing in Japan on YTV and BS NTV.
Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You is being animated by Seven Arcs, the studio previously responsible for anime like Dog Days, White Album, Sekirei, and Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha. It’s being directed by Hiroshi Ikehata, who has also worked on Kiratto Pri☆Chan and Seton Academy: Welcome to the Pack. Kazuho Hyodo, who also worked on Kiratto Pri☆Chan, is in charge of the series scripts. Masakatsu Sasaki of Saki and We Never Learn: BOKUBEN fame is handling character designs alongside prop designer Goichi Iwahata. Ritsuko Utagawa is the color key artist, while the art director on the series is Yukihiro Shibutani. Satoshi Motoyama is directing the sound of the anime, while composer Endo of Akiba’s Trip: The Animation fame will be composing the music.
Hata launched the manga back in February of 2018, debuting it in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. Funnily enough, that same year the manga author ended up becoming a newlywed himself. He married Masumi Asano, a voice actress who worked with him on another manga of his, Seiyu’s Life. Seiyu’s Life ended up getting a television anime adaptation in 2015.
