Konami is back with another rerelease of their classic titles! Metal Gear Solid and selected old-school classics are now available for your PC, thanks to GOG.
So what makes this any different from the Konami titles on Steam? Well, GOG is distributing select tiles that aren’t available otherwise for PC. Rereleased titles include the original Metal Gear and its sequels, Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. Although a little repetitive, Konami has also released a bundle of 8-bit classic titles in a collection. In it, players can experience the first three Castlevania games packaged together with Contra and Super Contra. This bundle includes many of the games available in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Contra Anniversary Collection released on other platforms back in 2019. Seeing early age Metal Gear titles returning to PC should prove to be a great opportunity for younger players. Until now, all three Metal Gear titles were exclusive to PSNow, or the Playstation Classic system, released in 2018.
The Metal Gear franchise is regarded as one of the earliest stealth games in history and often considered ahead of its time for its political theme. The series went on to include nine main titles, as well as several spin-offs such as Metal Gear Rising. Almost every game was developed by Hideo Kojima, who left Konami in 2015 due to creative differences. In 2019, Hideo Kojima released Death Stranding under his own studio’s name.
Castlevania may have flopped with its recent mobile game release, but Konami can always rely on their ports of fan-favorite titles when all else fails them.
