During the online 10th anniversary event for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, it was revealed that the franchise will receive an anime film titled Gekijoban Maho Shojo Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten (Turning the Tide of Walpurgis). It was stated that the film is an official sequel to the 2013 Madoka Magica film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion.
Along with the reveal was a promotional visual for the new film and a promotional video, which announced the returning cast members and original film production team.

Along with the numerous reveals and announcements at the online Madoka Magica 10th anniversary event, it was announced that the two-disc soundtrack for the film franchise will be available on Monday worldwide on the subscription services Spotify and Apple music! An original story event, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Scene 0 will be held in the mobile game, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story. An exhibition for the Madoka Magica franchise will be in Tokyo late September and other areas as planned.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica originally ran as a 12-episode series back in January 2011 and from there it has received three animated films. Two of the three films were compilation films, Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal which released in October 2012. The third film, a sequel to the cinematic releases, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion which released in October 2013. The Madoka Magica franchise also received a mobile game, Magia Record, in which the players are given a new protagonist and can collect different magical girls in the Madoka universe. The mobile game received an animated 13-episode series, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, in January 2020, and a North American launch of the mobile game in June 2019. After a couple months of the animated series, Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, it was announced that the North American servers for the mobile were to shut down, but not the Japanese servers.
