It’s hard to believe that February 20th, 2023, marks ten years since the first chapter of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was published in the famous Japanese novel site Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Here we are, though, about to celebrate ten years of the slime isekai, which paved the way for so many others over the last decade, with a yearlong celebration planned by the staff behind the series.
Recently announced, the celebration will have five different parts (technically six), starting with a brand-new story written by the author and published on the initial site that started it all and culminating in the premiere of the third television season in spring 2024. Here is the breakdown of events that you can expect to see reported on over the next year:
Part 1: As mentioned, the festivities start with a brand-new short story titled “How to spend a vacation,” which hits Shōsetsuka ni Narō on February 20th. In the future, this story will also receive a manga adaptation by 3X3 Eyes author Yuzo Takada which will run in Monthly Shonen Sirius.
Part 2: A new three-episode OVA will be released in fall 2023, adapting the Coleus’ Dream story from the season two Blu-ray booklet. This story occurred between the events of seasons one and two and features Rimuru dealing with intrigue in the Coleus Kingdom.
Parts 3 and 4: These parts are still in development, but initial plans call for the most numerous in-person gathering for fans of the franchise to celebrate the sale of the series’ various books surpassing 40 million copies. More details will be announced on official social media channels soon.
Part 5: The first ever That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime stage play will begin its first performances in August. Once again, there are no details regarding cast, crew, performance locations, or dates. But they will announce more of these details on official social media channels as they are confirmed.
Finally, we have the news that people have been really waiting for. After the grand finale screening of the recently released Scarlet Bond movie, the staff announced that the new television season will premiere in spring 2024. While this isn’t technically part of the anniversary celebration we’ve been talking about, it’s still a superb way to cap off a year of celebrating a fantastic series that has won hearts and minds worldwide.
