Singer Pikotaro Teams Up With Pikachu for Brand New Single

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in with the famous Japanese singer Pikotaro, but that doesn’t mean that he hasn’t been keeping himself plenty busy. Not only has he been releasing remixes of some of his more famous songs such as PPAP, but he’s also released a music video featuring one of the biggest collaborations in Japanese history.

That’s right, the popular Japanese singer who brought us the touchy-feely hit “Everyone Must Die” has teamed up with one of the most popular Pokémon, Pikachu, for a new single titled “PIKA to PIKO”(ピカとピコ). In the three-minute-long video, Pikotaro translates for Pikachu in between the occasional dance break/electrocution. If you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a favor and go check it out.

The video was posted to Pikotaro’s official YouTube channel on Monday, August 31st, and has racked up almost 200,000 views as of me writing this article.

In the press release that arrived in my inbox upon the release of the video, Pikotaro was quoted as saying, “I interpreted Pikachu’s words by myself for this song. Nobody knows Pikachu’s language, but I think I understood it in Pikotaro’s way. In the music video, I call Pikachu ‘Pikataro’ when he puts sunglasses on. Pikachu looks cuter with them on so I think his popularity might increase even more!”

He further added, “I would like all the children around the world to enjoy the collaboration between Pikotaro and Pikachu,” added Pikotaro. “The whole world is in a difficult situation now, but I want to warm it up and entertain many people!”

It seems as though Pikotaro’s career is going to continue on an upward trajectory if he keeps on releasing hit songs like this and collaborating with big Japanese stars! What’s next for Pikotaro? It seems that only he knows.
