Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudou) appeared in 2017, during the height of cuisine shows like Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma and the start of the glut of isekai adventure shows. Did we really need a slice-of-life mash-up of those two genres? Yes! Yes, we did! And then Restaurant to Another World left us, handing off to the third season of Food Wars! and the short anime Osake wa Fuufu ni Natte (Love is Like a Cocktail). But the world was a little colder without dragon girls carrying around buckets of beef stew and getting into eating contests.
That all changed after the June issue of Monthly Shounen Ace blasted the news that Restaurant to Another World would have a second season, with Shopkeeper and demon girl Aletta on the cover. Then the anime’s official website launched.
Restaurant to Another World 2’s website gives us the vital information that the three main characters, Shopkeeper, Aletta, and Kuro, will be returning with their original voice actors. The first season’s director, Masato Jinbo, will be returning as well, but he’ll be working for OLM instead of SILVER LINK. OLM is known for producing children’s shows like Pokémon and sports anime like Inazuma Eleven and Major 2nd, but in the 2000s, they did the visual novel adaptations of ToHeart and Tears to Tiara. I hope this means Restaurant to Another World 2 doesn’t look like Pikachu eating omelet rice while kicking a soccer ball.
Restaurant to Another World 2‘s character designs look different and not as detailed as the first season’s designs, so I’m concerned about what the sexy fantasy world girls will look like when they show up again. Will Red Dragon still smolder? Will the fairies still sparkle? I’ll be watching with keen interest.
For now, let’s join in a big toast for the return of tasty food, good company, and elf girls eating tofu.
The Restaurant to Another World staff has not announced a broadcast date for the sequel, but the first season is currently streaming at Crunchyroll.
